Just rewatched Fedor versus Werdum

Sorry but your just talking about latter day UFC hype there, Nogs boxing defence by MMA standards was very good indeed and he actually took very few clean big punches standing in Pride, go and watch his fight with Sergei for example who destroyed guys like Rizzo, Ninja and Overeem in that era brutally yet could not land anything big on Nog(who did unlike Werdum actually enguage him standing wans wasn't shooting for takeodwns constantly).

MMA math never works and Nogueira was never a great boxer. He had decent hands and that's it.

Yes, Nog looked slick with his defense against Sergei. I will give you that. But Sergei was also very cautious of being taken down so of course he did not want to over extend his attack. Plus he could not land anything big because Nog was great at countering while taking shots due to his granite chin and Sergie did not want to risk getting countered and caught.

I think all those fights took a toll on Big Nog which deteriorated his reflexes little by little.

For sure. But man, Big Nog was really a human punching bag. I'm still amazed by the amount of punishment that guy took in his career and was still a decent fighter for many years.

The usual dishonest crap from you, how exactly is that "MMAth" its giving an example of Nog fighting a dangerous striker and showing excellent defence standing, MMAth would be if he'd just taken Sergei down without exchanging and won the fight on the ground.

As far as Werdum/Nog goes I think in terms of grappling at least the 2006 fight is much more relevant, Nog was obviously much closer to his best and Werdum was less than a year from winning ADCC and a multiple time BJJ champ. You can even see several situations in that fight that are similar but Nog second time around doesn't have the agility/sharpness to pull them off and ends up in a bad position then getting subbed.

Personally I think Werdum has a case for being te better "position then submission" sub fighter in MMA but in terms of getting a sub from their backs or during a scamble theres not much betweeh them.

Rampage's defence was not as good as Nogs back in the day, he depended much more on his chin and indeed very specifically stated he didn't want to fight Fedor.

By the time Nog was in the UFC he was clearly on his way down, look at the difference between his fights vs Herring, looked worse again vs SYlvia and then aweful vs Mir. If anyone can watch the latetr especially and say that's the same level of performance as he gave in Pride then either they have no idea what there watching or are wantonly dishonest.

Some of Fedor's offence was cover for looking for the clinch of course and not aimed very well but a lot of it wasn't and the fact it was often in the form of big looping shots is not a negative, just look at JDS's offence for example and how effective that is. The nature of MMA with smaller gloves makes such punchs a lot more effective, watch Fedor/Goodridge for example, almost the first punch Fedor throw sneaks around Goodridges high guard and rocks him setting up everything that follows.

There are solid strikers who has mediocre boxing defense. That is the reason why Overeem wins the K-1 GP but then gets knock out by Big Foot.

Cro Cop's boxing defense was good but he would not utilize it as well in MMA because of his caution in being taken down, which is why he got dropped by Randleman of all people.

So yeah, I know way more about striking than your basement dwelling self does.
