Just make Rousey vs Cyborg at 135, doesn't matter if she doesn't make weight...

A fighter would have to be insane to agree to a fight at a set weight and let their opponent get away with a significant weight advantage.

Everyone is basing the discussion on Cyborg missing by a few pounds, but what if she comes in at 143? 145? Or 150+? Cyborg already missed a previous fight at 145 by 6 pounds. If Cyborg comes in at 155 and Rousey comes in at 135 would you still expect her to do the fight? How would that be a fair fight?

So here's the problem with catch weights. If Cyborg comes in 5 pounds heavy would you still expect Rousey to do the fight? What about 7 pounds over? 10 pounds over? 13 pounds over?

Let's say they do 140 and Cyborg comes in at 148, 153 or 158?

The reason Cyborg has to make the weight ONE time at 135 is so that you know that she's not going to try to game the system and come in WAY over weight. There's just way too much on the line to let Cyborg promise 135, miss weight by a ton and put Rousey and the UFC in the position of having to either cancel the fight or take the fight at a big disadvantage.

Cyborg and her camp said she can make 135. They signed a contract that said they can make 135. So prove it. Prove it ONE time and she'll make more money in ONE fight than she'll likely make for her entire working life.

It really is quite reasonable.

So basically you want the UFC to tell Cyborg something akin to this "Psst. Just sign to fight Ronda at 135...and then trick her into fighting you at catch-weight like you have been demanding all along by intentionally missing weight. We won't pull you from the fight, and since you have no interest in the 135 title, the only consequence is the fight will not be for the title....and you might lose a % of the biggest payday of your life." ?

Or am I misunderstanding your sentiment?

Seems unethical bro.

You got me wrong, it's not about tricking Ronda, she would know, the goal is only to make the fight happen. They say Ronda can beat anyone, and every fans are asking for this fight. The way Ronda talks about Cyborg make it seems like she wont be a problem, so let's just make the fight happen, it's history* right there.

*W''MMA'' history, let's precise.

...it will be an exhibition match-up, but at least the fight would happen, the fight would be at 135 so even if Cyborg won they wouldn't need to create a new category. This seems like the solution, other than Ronda finally agreeing the catch-weight (instead of pretending she can beat any men) or instead of seeing Ronda leave the UFC.

The UFC and Ronda seem to believe she cannot lose anyway, why duck this solution?

Dana and Ronda are scared. If Cyborg came in over 135, they would 100% call the fight off. No way they risk Ronda getting her head smashed in.

They should do this with all the UFC titles. "Eat up Conor. Who cares if you don't make weight for the Aldo fight? We'll just do it anyway as an exhibition. At least the fight will happen!"

Wouldn't Rousey be able to bulk up too in such a case, or cut less weight? :)

But also, she talks as if she can beat her already, so let's prove it. It seems evident, when you truly believe that you're the greatest of all women fighter (not just at 135) then you should strive to face the greatest challenge while you're still on top.

Except the Conor vs Aldo fight was never "impossible" because one fighter couldn't make weight.

Yes, and let's be honest even more : the weight advantage would probably not even be the main reason, Ronda isn't that great MMA fighter people pretend.

The sticking point is the weight though....not sure how you see Ronda budging on that.

The fight @135 has been offered to Cyborg, and Cyborg has fucked about with that for the last two years(adding mass even). I don't see how your scenario can work, unless they are actively tricking Ronda into thinking Cyborg is going to meet her legitimately at 135. If at that point, Cyborg misses weight, Ronda likely would be in a position where she'd reluctantly accept the catch-weight just to do right by the fans.

And no one is saying that either of them is the greatest fighter of all time regardless of weight. That's what Ronda is being portrayed as - 'The greatest fighter ever" She can beat men, women of any size and most wild animals. It is completely ridiculous that 5 lbs is keeping her from fighting the only female threat in the game.

But the public opinion/knowledge is with her. She can't lose. She is the best, whether she backs it up or not. Even if she loses, there will be a reason.

"Rowdy" Ronda Rousey is, beyond the shadow of a doubt, the greatest fighter in the history of this Earth we call home.

Well, I said it many times...think about it, would it be the first time a fighter fought someone heavier? Just take the example of Fedor...

Ronda says she's the greatest female fighter in MMA right now, she's at the top, so why not pick up the best fight possible for her? The greatest challenge? This is what makes legacy, this is the real proof. I don't know how else to say it...

Absolutely, and people also act like it's the first time a fighter fights heavier competition.

Let it go. Rousey is undisputed. She is the greatest. She could beat Laila Ali in a boxing match at 168lbs.

Cyborg is a low-down dirty, cheating dog. End of story.

It's hilarious cause the same people bitching that Ronda isn't facing the best possible opponent then go on to say who cares if her opponent can't even make weight.

People want wmma more like men's mma but no one suggest having a men's champ fight a fighter who can't make weight

Yeah I understand that you want the fight to happen, but you aren't really explaining how your scenario is different from the one in reality wherein Cyborg has repeatedly been offered the fight at 135 and has repeatedly done nothing with it.

The onus is on Cyborg....you know? Given that they keep offering her the fight and all.

Absolutely, and people also act like it's the first time a fighter fights heavier competition.

I don't know a single example of when a fighter refused to fight someone who came in overweight.

How much do you expect Rousey to bulk up? Cyborg is walking around at 175. Rousey walks around at 150-155. And what's to stop Cyborg from bulking up even more?

And if they both miss weight, what's the point of that? And there's a difference between facing a legitimate challenge, and facing someone who you believe has benefited from cheating.

Sure, Cyborg has tested clean as of late, but how did she get those muscles in the first place? It's just as if not more plausible that she got them with the benefit of steroids and is holding onto that mass as she got them legitimately and would have gotten them without steroids anyway.

There really is no point to this discussion.

The UFC has all the leverage. They have the most at risk. They're bringing the most money to the table. They have the moral high ground (Rousey has never tested positive for steroids). And Cyborg and her camp have acknowledged that they can make the weight as well as signed a contract saying that she'll make the weight.

You're asking for Rousey and the UFC to make concessions over terms that Cyborg has already acknowledged are doable and reasonable. So why exactly are you fighting so hard to change those terms when they're obviously acceptable to Cyborg and her camp?

Or is it just so you can realize some fantasy of a roided out giant Cyborg in a freakshow fight?
