JURASSIC WORLD v.2 (Dragonlord's Review)

Never said it was. People just seem a little touchy with this one. I guarantee more than half the people saying "Leave Jurassic World alone! It's fun, okay!", are right there on the hate wagon when a Transformers flick rolls out, and wouldn't let such an excuse fly.

Anyways, I believe we're supposed to move on.

The Transformers movies have been universally panned as having almost no redeeming qualities.

JW has received pretty warm reviews from both critics and users.

CHL doesn't agree that JW was better than The Godfather I guess?

Jurassic World >>>>>> Cool Hand Luke.
Blue the raptor > Paul Newman. Come at me bro!

I liked this movie more than I thought I would, it was a solid 7. The buildup was nice, there were a couple very intense scenes, and Pratt worked better than I thought (I haven't seen GotG yet, so he's still Andy to me). The problems come in near the end when things start happening for silly reasons, I couldn't get over the Deus Ex Mosasaur just jumping up and getting the kill out of nowhere. I mean, it was funny, but so anti-climatic. Then the loving stare between the Rex and Raptor, then when the Rex leaves Blue turns her affections to Pratt, but he's all like "Nah, I got a thing going with the redhead, this experience has completely changed her previous insufferability, she's gonna be danger horny for years". So the raptor runs off.

I totally forgot Henry Wu survived the first movie cause I've read the book so many times since, and he gets fucked up in the book. I thought the sequel setup was kind of weak. In fact, I hope to god they don't do what I think they're thinking of doing.

One thing is that I never really felt the same sense of danger for the main characters that I did in the original. I mean, I knew nothing was going to eat Lex and Tim, but that kitchen scene is still tense as hell. This movie was more "what cool thing are they going to do to get out of this!"

Couple neat callbacks, but they kind of shoved them down your throat. Random technician guy was kind of funny. I think for a movie was primarily supposed to e dinosaur murder they did pretty well with the side action and characters. I had two separate people mention the guy grabbing his margaritas before he ran from the Pteros.

I'd pay to see it again, it delivered where it needed to, even if some parts were pretty predictable and flavorless. The ending...was a little bit of a downslope.

It's still nowhere near as bad as Desolation of Smaug.

Big deal. Kindom Of The Crystal Skull recieved mostly positive reviews upon release as well. Star Wars prequels.....Matrix sequels.....

It's amazing how blinding a respected brand name can be. And seriously, Rotton Tomatoes is the deciding factor on whether or not you can talk shit about a movie?

The reality is that it's a terrible movie at it's core. It honestly blows my mind that it's getting the scores that it's getting.

It's pretty much on par or worse than the last transformers movie. I feel that had transformers had the dinobots in it for slightly longer, it would have gotten 3 points higher on average per review.

On the plus side, I find that TV seems to be telling better stories.

Lol, you drew a direct parallel to JW and Transformers.

None of those movies are held in high regard and neither will JW, but as usual on the internet, hyperbole reigns and if something isn't the greatest thing ever then it's the worst thing ever.

Transformers isn't a respected brand name with 30 years of nostalgia behind it?

Also, where did I say you couldn't talk shit about a movie? Again, you brought up Transformers and by every measurable there is, JW was received much better.

It's everyone else that's wrong, I'm sure.

Why on earth are you going to JW for the story telling? Why are you watching Transformer movies if you know they're terrible? Do you just exist to complain?

Wouldn't be the first time.

*aggressively points to The Phantom Menace*

Why on earth are you going to JW for the story telling?

Perhaps because the original had great storytelling, along with being a great action adventure movie.

Crazy to expect both, I know.

Their used to be such a thing as a great action flick that is just all around decent...you do know this, right?

I went into JW because everyone was saying the shit you said. "It's not a bad flick 7-8/10"

As for transformers, I had to take my niece and nephew so I got stuck on that one. :icon_sad:

Why are you bringing up The Phantom Menace? It wasn't received well at all, in any way, really.

You've had two sequels to know they would never come close to the original. Hell, The Lost World even had Speilberg back directing. And you couldn't figure out from Chris Pratt riding around on a fucking motorcycle with a pack of raptors that story might have taken a backseat on this one?

Yup, and that's exactly what JW is. A decent summer action movie. You didn't like it and that's fine. But pretending like vapid summer action movies haven't been around for a very long time is disingenuous.

Yeah, says everybody now. It was well recieved upon release, I assure you. It certainly was not treated like it is today. Don't trust the almighty tomatometer on that one.

Don't believe me, fine. I point to Kingdom Of The Crystal Skull.

Oh' look, another one of those excuses I was talking about earlier.

Just because you should've expected a lazy script, doesn't excuse a lazy script.

Today a random thought popped in my head: those kids' parents are still getting divorced. Sucks for them.

No it wasn't. I can assure you.

And there are lots of ways to enjoy a movie. Pulp Fiction is my favorite movie of all time, mostly due to the writing. Pacific Rim was one of my favorite recent movies because it had giant fucking monsters fighting. I couldn't give a damn about the characters and their backstories, I was there to watch monsters fight and that's what I got. Same with Jurassic World.

Iron Man
The last Batman Trilogy
The Avengers
Guardians
Jurassic Park 1
Terminator 2
Star Trek (the rebooted one)
Titanic

Don't pretend that a movie can't be a "decent summer action movie" and remain "decent" to do so would be disingenuous.

I go to see big budget, summer movies not expecting Shawshank Redemption. What I am expecting is a great ride with plot that has some form of originality to it, some witty banter and characters that don't necessarily follow the mold of what I was expecting.

JW was none of that. It was a CGI demo reel at best. And a cartoon at its worst.

And because of that, because others have done much...MUCH better at being "decent summer action movies" it gets rewarded by my shitting on it. It should not get a fucking 7 or an 8. Unless you wanna give the original Matrix a fucking 12 out of 10.

You provided less than 10 examples from over the past 20 years. I'd say that vapid summer blockbusters are the norm.

I look at movies differently than you do. This movie is in no way an 8/10 when I compare it to The Godfather. It however when I compare it to something like Age of Ultron and how much enjoyment I got out of it. It's all relative.

Really?

I could have put more thought into my list, I just went off the top of my head.

But that honestly doesn't matter. Your point is that a movie gets rated, not on the merits of how well it was made, but by your "feels"? So a great movie is gonna get a 2/10 because you watched it while you were in a bad mood?

Batman: the Dark Knight was a great summer action movie. You are telling me that even if you gave it perfection (which you wouldn't) it only rates 2 points higher on your scale than JW???

Your scale sucks.

I said enjoyment. If I didn't enjoy a movie at all I would give it a 2/10.

Not as much as your reading comprehension.
