JURASSIC WORLD v.2 (Dragonlord's Review)

JP1 was science fiction. like Alien 1. there was complex dialogue and the action scenes were complemetary to the plot. most movies nowadays are a sucession of action scenes full of cliches, with an oversimplified plot which is only there to link them, really simple conversations and some corny jokes thrown here and there.

it is like they think dumbing down the movies will make them more succesful.

I think people forget that in essense, this is a kids movie. It's made for them, and children are amused by Dinasaurs wrestling and crafty, dog-like raptors. Which is fine.

Scientific versimilatude like in Jurassic 1 is the exception, not the rule.

My god, the amount of bitching about this movie is just ridiculous.

Chris Pratt did a great job, why do people bash movies and actors before they've even seen them?

I give this movie a 9/10. Best sequel of Jurassic Park by far for me.

3D ? if so, how was it ?

It's crazy how Hollywood just picks someone and shoves then Down our throats as the next big thing.

The dude is pretty ordinary imo but Spielberg is looking at making the next Indiana Jones movies with him.

He also Reminds me of Matt Mitrione 😆

Chris Pratt is the new Sam Worthington, very hot property now but in 3 years no one will remember his name.

you make some valid points Dredd and is quite sad that I agree with them, because you are pretty much saying society is becoming dumber and dumber.

I don't forget it. Jurassic Park and The Lost World were some of my childhood favourite movies. the complex dialogue from the first one didn't stop me or millions of other kids to be fascinated by it.

you can make extremely succesful movies and series without them necessarily being a dumb clusterfuck of action, cliches and comedy.

He's part of the MCU. I'd wait before saying that. Guardians 2 does come out in 2017...

You know nothing. Pratt's been around for a long time and will continue to be. I have been a huge fan of his since Everwood.

I'm being a little harsh, I actually like him. I also liked Worthington and he was in the biggest movie of all time.

On another note, Ouch! currently at 64% on Rotten Tomatoes. Will still see it, out of respect for the original. Hated the sequels.

I don't think so. I think Pratt does have a special something that sets him apart from the pack.

Worthington I think is actually a solid actor and better than the general public is willing to give him credit for, but he is more generic than Pratt in my opinion.

Dragonlord's Review of JURASSIC WORLD (No Spoilers)

Bottom Line: The Indominus Rex and the Raptors shine through but it's the uninteresting human characters, cringey dialogue and recycled ideas that bedim the film.

Jurassic-World-Dragonlords-Review-060915.jpg

Synopsis: Twenty-two years after the events of Jurassic Park, Isla Nublar now features a fully functioning dinosaur theme park, Jurassic World, as originally envisioned by John Hammond. After 10 years of operation and visitor rates declining, in order to fulfill a corporate mandate, a new attraction is created to re-spark visitor's interest, which backfires horribly.

Review: Director Colin Trevorrow steps in to revive a dormant franchise which pays homage to the original Jurassic Park while subsequently ignoring the two sequels that followed it. Trevorrow foregoes the sense of wonder and science (can't blame him though since it's already been done) and instead focuses more on the action adventure aspects. There's plenty of meta references and nostalgic nods to the original film. Unfortunately, the dull human characters are the weakest part of the film.

Chris Pratt was adequate as the leading man Owen Grady, a former Navy guy and the park's Raptor trainer. Though he plays the character a bit more serious than his Star-Lord role in GotG, there's just a sense of staleness to Pratt's performance that makes me question his newfound leading man status. Josh Brolin almost got Pratt's role and the True Grit actor's solemnity and gruffness would have been a better fit for this film. It also doesn't help that Pratt had a really awkward scene with Bryce Dallas Howard early on with the most cringeworthy dialogue.

The other main characters are a bust. Howard plays the park operations manager and becomes intolerable as the film progressed. Kept on thinking Charlize Theron would have nailed the role perfectly. The two brothers played by Ty Simpkins and Nick Robinson are too uninteresting to follow. Judy Greer, who plays their mother, should have been with the two on their adventures. They also showed multiple unnecessary scenes of the older brother staring at girls on the park but it just comes across as creepy.

The human characters might have been a failure but fortunately the Indominus Rex shines through. A hybrid from dinosaur and animal gene mixing, the Indominus Rex is a terrific, unstoppable villain that provides a great deal of scary moments. The execution for the "domesticated" Raptors concept was well done and believable. Though it's been shown in the trailers, Pratt riding with the Raptors to battle was still badass. The CGI effects are superb and the exhilarating third act is a monster mash mayhem heaven.

Preliminary Rating: 6.5/10

Thanks for the review DL.

Sucks to hear the performances weren't the best.

Dragon, did you just call my Chris Pratt ADEQUATE? Adequate?!? Is that what you said?!?!?!?

Little to late in trying to revive the series in my opinion
