Nice throw, good ippon. BTW, the ref called matte too soon when you were on the ground :icon_chee

yup he was an old school ref , and i knew that , thats why i i just kept positoning , the guy was a former am wrestler so i wanted nothing on the ground cuz i didnt want to try something and get pinned .

good example of using a wrestlers weakness by baiting them with a low stance in judo competition though . the sumi was very easy to pull off.

I wanna see a bjjer that has well rounded nice throws that didn't do official judo.

Like Thales Leites?

There is a system that judo should offer that makes you a base out fighter for throws.

Nick and Nate Diaz have executed text book judo throws in the cage. In particuliar I remember seeing Nate pulling a nice harai goshi. :icon_chee

FrankyEdgar has pulled off, or what appears to be osoto gari, but trips are very common in all grapplingand wrestling forms.

What do you guys think of the one knee drop seo? Seems like it could be effective against a crouching opponent and I think its legal even in white belt level comps, yes?

Yea nate did do a Harai Goshi, he had a kimura grip though. It was his fight right before his last one. Nate and them do do some Judo at Cesar's school. Not too much, but some.

and yes, Franki Edgar did.

Osoto at 3:34 left in Round 1 He also does a Kosoto in round 2 and Ouchi in round 3

Spencer Fisher did a mean Harai-Goshi on Sam Stout in their first fight.

And Hermes Franca almot paralyzed Caol Uno on a TEXTBOOK Harai-Goshi.

Joe Riggs tapped to a Harai-Goshi due to spinal injury...

One drop is cool, but te double drop Seoi works even better, although it's a little more dangerous.

I'm under the impression that in most BJJ comps the double knee drop seo is verboten at the white belt level which is where I plan to compete.

its all about the caramillo brothers , daves guriellla jiu jitsu is great .

Did Saulo and Xande do Judo?

I know Jacare did, and I thought the 2 brothers did, but I'm not sure...

Anyone know?

Nice, I had no idea Jacare had such slick throws. I will have to work on that ankle pick that looks pretty sweet.

Camarillo is the man..

We should have a look to see if osoto similar tech works in freestyle. I'll keep an eye open.

I've seen B Satiev do an ipponseoinage grip osoto in freestyle. Dropped to his reaping knee. If you remember Iliadis's fight in the Athens finals, Saitiev's throw was a bit like that.

The only Judo-ish sweep I use is the Hiza Guruma. It doesn't look as pretty as the gif, but still gets the job done.
Judo is scary!

yeah man the ankle pick is great cuz you can fake hip throws and go for it , i fake a seio nage to it some times , or fire man carries , jacare does it like rhadi furgeson does it .

Nicky I kept landing sumi gaeshis today, faked entry with a russian grip into hip throw

and took it,

you nca transition into a pretty nice choke/neck crank even if you don't roll into mount

yeah man i do that at my club if i hit it i just keep rolling into full mount and try for or set up a sode gurmi ( i thinki spelt that right , or try for an arm bar haha .

How effective is sumi gaeshi in competition? I've seen it used a few times in MMA, but I haven't really seen it in Judo or BJJ competition. I see a lot more Tomo nage's though.

It's basically a butterfly guard sweep from standing. I noticed they drilled it a ton on the BJJ Fight Quest episode.

to be correct thou a butterfly sweep is like a grounded sumo gaeshi:wink::wink:
