I dont think it will be huge. Tom isnt a star.
But personally Id rather see it than Jones vs Poatan.
I want Jones vs. Apiral, as exciting and big as Poatan vs. Jones could be, it doesnt seem fair
The UFC and TKO group dont see it that way. PPVs clearly represent flagship performances and athletes, hence why champions/stars are on it. Free fights are for up and comers or people on their way down.
I hope for Asspinals sake, hes not dismissed as quickly as Gane if he loses to Jones, but that seems to be the trend.
Look what people say about Gane, Stipe and just about everyone else Jones beats. They go from killers, to "never that good."
PPV main and co main are for stars. The next group are the ones headlining fight night cards, then the other ppv fights.
And yes, Tom vs Jones would be huge and do huge #'s relative to the current ppv market. (And so would Jones vs Pereira to be fair--again assuming a Pereira win tomorrow).
Gane did lose some shine, but don't fool yourself. Francis had already taken plenty of it by taking him down over and over and showing that glaring weakness in his game. Then he folds vs Jones...and look at his last fight. Gets a ridiculous robbery decision vs Volkov. So yeah, Gane is a good but clearly not great HW. Stipe? Absolutely NOBODY thought the 43 year old version who hadn't fought in 4 years (and was brutally KO'd in that fight) was "a killer". You can't pretend this was 2016 Stipe and have any credibility.
If Aspinall were to lose to Jones but then go back to knocking everyone else out, only utter morons will say "he was never any good".
