Jones ducked Ngannou for years!

I still believe Francis priced himself out. There was a solid 2 years of back and forth negotiations. I don't think anyone was scared of anyone. I still believe he stickler was boxing. had the ufc allowed him to box and secure his megapayday we would've gotten Jon vs Francis.

Francis said no? where did you see this? Francis was done with the promotion. He was no longer under contract and had a verbal agreement with Tyson Fury for a super fight that would pay him millions upon millions.
why are you supporting this revisionist history?
The bullshit is getting to be a bit much. Ngannou turned down $8 million to fight Jones. He said so, himself.

There was NO verbal agreement for a boxing match with anybody. If not for the Saudis suddenly stepping up. Ngannou would have been utterly hooped. No serious promoter was interested in that fight. Oh but wait, he had the PFL to fall back on.

And you haven’t mentioned Ngannou was out the entire last year of his UFC contract. Who was supposed to fight him then?

I hate Jones, and Ngannou, but I don’t make shit up.

I don't think Jones is scared of fighting anyone.
But he is scared of losing and ruining his record and legacy.

Jon was probably on some undisclosed suspension why else sit out 3 years that doesn't make much sense

Francis' contract officially ran out in January and that's when he was out the door. He was still signed to the UFC until then, so according to you why couldn't Jon sign a fight contract? And you still don't get the concept that the UFC can't guarantee anyone a fight because if the other fighter doesn't want to fight, they can't make them fight, it's that simple.

Also, Jon's new contract and the Gane fight were announced at the same time on January 14 when Ngannou was out the door, not before. So that reads a lot like Jones waited for Frank to leave and then signed a new UFC contract and a Gane fight contract at the same time. You can disagree but that's the way it played out. Combine that with a complete lack of any public statement by Jones that he wanted to fight Frank, I think we can deduce what really happened, Jon waited for Francis to leave and then jumped all in for the Gane fight. (Which is pretty much the conventional wisdom on Sherdog and other fan sites already)

You are incorrect!!!!! (note that's 5 exclamation marks to show the degree of incorrectness). Francis contract according to Francis expired in early to mid December 22, so he was already a free agent in January 23. He mentioned this many times in interviews that he was already a free agent when the UFC released in the media he is not re-signing and being stripped of the belt. He even got upset that Dana and Co said they released him, he made it clear that his contract already expired.

"UFC president Dana White said last Saturday that the promotion had released Ngannou, including waiving an exclusive negotiating window and one-year matching rights clause, and stripped him of the heavyweight title. Ngannou disputes that characterization, saying that his contract with the UFC expired in early-to-mid December and he was already a free agent."

So my points stands why Jon had to wait for Francis to re-sign with the promotion before he can sign any bout agreement. Which makes sense, you can't sign a fight until the opponent is signed to the promotion. Jon and the UFC had to wait to see if they can come to terms with Francis first.

And they can guarantee a fight if they other opponent has already agreed to take that fight, which is what happend. Jon even said and I posted link that Francis had the opportunity to fight him and didnt.

This is how it played out...

Dec 22 - Francis is still in talks with the UFC and having meetings to make a new deal happen. They fail to come to terms so Francis leaves the country and by this time his contract is already expired and he is a free agent, according to Francis.

Jan 23 - Francis said that the last effort was made in early January when Francis had a call with Hunter Campbell and Mick Maynard, he says this on the Ariel podcast, this is when they offered him the Jones fight 100% and guaranteed it in is new contract, I posted the link to this with Francis saying this. Francis declined this offer.

Jan 14th 2023 - UFC officially announces they are releasing Francis and they couldn't come to new terms with him.

Jan 15th 2023 - UFC announces that Jon Jones has signed a new 8 fight deal and also announces the fight with Gane for UFC 285.

So what this means is that Jon Jones and the UFC waited to see if they re-sign Francis to a new deal as late as early January. When they couldn't get a deal done, they moved on to plan B and announced the Gane fight right after. That's why it was released that Francis is gone, and next day Jon is got a new deal and fighting at UFC 285.

Think about it....Jon inked a new deal and was in for Francis fight so that is why they got on a call despreately in early Jan to offer a contract to Francis that had the fight guarenteed. Previously they never guarenteed the Francis the fight, now they did, right when Jon signs a new deal and is slated for UFC 285. Co-incidence?? I dont think so. Jon had a new deal, the Francis fight was there and he was taking it under the impression Francis signs his new contract.

Ngannou and the UFC disagree about when his contract expired, I imagine if Jones was in on the negotiations, he was listening to Dana, not Frank, So Jan 14. To support your argument that Jones wanted to fight Francis, find where he ever said publicly that he wanted the fight BEFORE Frank left. That would help your argument.

It was public news that his contract expires in December, it was mentioend in the media from every mma media outlet.

All this talk comes down to a very simple fact. Francis Ngannou had a contract offer and it was guaranteed in his contract that he fights Jon Jones. This proposal was made shortly after Jon signed his new deal. The UFC was not going to put that in his contract unless the fight was agreed from Jones side.

You're arguing the UFC used the Jones fight to get Francis to commit to a new contract and then Jon can back out. That is wrong, Francis has said many times the UFC used the Jones fight to get him to sign, but he was worried about what happens after the Jones fight. Giving him that fight locked him in. They gave him that fight he wanted but nothing was in the contract on what happens after that. There we no money figures, no other fights, like Francis said it was blank. Think about that and how this deal was structured, why would the UFC make a contract to Francis for 3 fights, put the Jones guarentee in there as the first fight, if there were no plans from Jones to take the fight?? The UFC wont make a contract like that unless they have the other opponent locked in.

Here is a quote from Ngannous coach from Jan 13th, a day before everything came out in the media. He cleary says Jon Jones is the opponent. It's one thing to lie about a potential fight from a promoter to bait a fighter, but another to actually have it in a contract where the coaches and everyone involved knows.

“And then obviously they still haven’t announced anything yet with his contract and where they’re at, so 50-50 for me. I’m hoping for this thing, fingers crossed that we can get this deal done. I do know that they’re shooting for March and that Jon Jones is the opponent. Everything else is out of my hands, but if they tell me, ‘Hey, we’re fighting March 4,’ we’ll have our guy ready, that’s for sure.”

Man, I really appreciate your efforts to convince everyone that Jones actually wanted to fight Ngannou but without any sort of inside information that's reliable, we just don't know. The biggest thing for me is why, if Jones wanted the fight and was ready to sign, why wasn't he calling him out in public, and why did they announce Jones/Gane the day Frank said he walked away. Obviously that deal was ready to go and Jones must have known the Ngannou situation was intractable and he was definitely walking away as it had been going on for months. On top of that, Dana previously said that it was Jones who didn't want the fight (May '21) but now that Frank split, he predictably changed his story. Again, we'll probably never know. Kinda funny though how he was so keen to fight Frank but won't touch Aspinall. Pretty sure he never wanted to fight either one. His response to Tom's callouts has basically been reduced to 'leave me alone'

Jones bulked up for years only to show up fat. He’s also fighting Ngannou’s leftovers like Gane & Stipe.

The 3 year bulking process really was ridiculous. He posted power lifting vids for years then showed up looking exactly the same as he did at 205 but with a beer gut.

Glad to see this didn't get memory-holed. I was scratching my head wondering wtf people were smoking when I heard the "ngannou ducked jones" shit. Ngannou asked for that fight for years, and jones wanted absolutely nothing to do with it. People acted like I was crazy when I said that

Does anyone actually think Ngannou ducked Jones?
Ngannou was the champion of the HW division for years while Jones sat out "bulking". He had every opportunity over that time frame to fight him, but declined to do so. He did not return until Ngannou left the promotion. These are facts.

Just wanna set the record straight that Jon Jones is a duck. He ducked Ngannou and now he is ducking Aspinall. That is all.
Francis literally QUIT the UFC and MMA instead of fighting Jones
LITERALLY QUIT MMA

Jones is in the UFC as HW champion. Francis left.
Francis was champion for less than 100 days and ultimately turned down the Jones offer and relinquished the belt

Jones was left to fight the #1 for the belt after Francis quit, and we all know how that went within seconds.

Francis will NEVER fight in the UFC as long as Jones is active. What was Francis going to do? Punch Jones with his fists?

To answer your question about Jones not calling him out in public. If you've watched Jon and his entire career, Jon never calls anyone out in public, it is very rare for him to ask for a fight. The only one that I recall is Stipe where he talked about that fight in the media and he mentioned Perreira recently. Besides that, you can't really recall one time Jon called anyone out. But everyone guns for Jon, that's just how he plays the game. But yet he pretty much fought everyone.

The deal was ready to go and Jon was ready to sign the fight, as long as, Francis did. That was the deal in January of 23, it's very straight forward. Jon signed a new deal, UFC reaches out to Francis in January with a last effort and guarantees the fight with Jones in his contract and the offer is there. But Francis graciously declines and the fight doesn't get made.

In regards to Gane/Jones being announed on the day? Also, very straight forward and this I know for certain. The reason it was announced same day is to defuse Francis leaving. Both Jones/Gane, Jones new conract and Francis leaving was announced Jan 14th, Gane was the back up for the fight. Gane even called out Jones a few days prior saying he's ready for March once he caught wind Francis may be gone. The fight was on the table the week before, but fell apart. So that is why the UFC announced it same day, it was to defuse their HW champ leaving so they needed to announced something to cover it up right away.

As for Tom, that's a pretty big duck, one of the biggest in history of the sport. For now, we'll see what happens after Jones/Stipe. All parties should moved on from this fight earlier this year.

Jon Jones hasn't defended the heavyweight title in 18 months. He's a coward and an embarrassment.

I have no problem with a legacy fight between him and Stipe, but he should have vacated the HW title. But what can you expect of a wife beating crackhead. He's not GSP. He's not going to retire and do the honorable thing.

You're not crazy at all. You just don't know the facts, that's it. Asking for a fight means nothing, and there was no years for it. The fight actually had a small window to happen.

Ngannou didn't duck Jones. He just had a contract for the fight but decided to leave the promotion and take his career where it worked better for him.

Well said. I believe you are wrong, but it's the best case one could make from your point of view
