Media Jon Jones wrestles Gable Steveson

Nah, dude, I think if he keeps winning he’ll get fast tracked much earlier. He’s very active too. He’ll have his 3rd pro fight in February. Probably goes through DWCS and will have his first UFC fight this year. I wouldn’t be surprised if he fights ranked opponents next year. I see him getting destroyed by guys like Volkov, Pavlovich or Almeida though. Maybe he improves and becomes a champion, but it’s really too early to tell.
He doesn't have to take the fast track if he doesn't want to. He can take his time if he's smart

Hey man, haven't talked to you in awhile. How was your holiday? Do you guys celebrate Martin Luther King day in Canada? All the banks were closed over here lol.
This cracked me up lol, I'm going out on a limb here...
I think they do

Wrestling clip was cool.

The pad work was barely serviceable, not like super smooth padwork really matters all that much honestly.

He's gonna be a handful as is, don't fuck him up by making him believe he's got lethal hands like what happened to Ronda and Belal.
He has lethal hands even if not super technical

Exactly, there's more utility in having him spar to work on his boxing, as success for him will come down to strategy/tactics moreso than picture perfect technique.

This is true of most mma fighters actually, but especially for an athlete like GS. Not a lot of padwork necessary imo

Lethal hands? Because he knocked out a 1-3 and a 2-2 guy?
He put a few below average straights together as combo

Such a dumb statement .... We have no idea what he's going to do. We don't know how long from now he even be facing legit competition. By the time he reaches the UFC and gets to the top you have absolutely no idea who will still be at the top. He's a 25 year old hw. He might not fight for a title for like 5-7 more years. You have no idea what'll happen with him. No one does.
When he was on the Rogan podcast he asked him if he was gonna get a bunch more fights in the regional to build experience but Gable said he's ready for anyone in the UFC now and wants in on the White House card this summer.

So he beat a bunch of bums at the Olympics, NCAA, and high school all-state. HYPE JOB! Parker Porter beats him 10/10 times.
You seen Buchecha in UFC? He's one of the goats of ADCC and in the BJJ hall of fame. Smoked all his MMA opponents in under two mins and now's he's in UFC and can't win a fight.

uhhh well then. I think he shouldn't do that. Paddy and O'malley did it right.

Remember the buildup to Rashad Evans versus Jon Jones. Rashad kept telling anyone who would listen that he used to out-wrestle Jon in practice. Over and over again. And when Jon finally addressed it, he didn’t get emotional or defensive. He said something to the effect of, “I was showing respect to the veteran. On Saturday night, it’ll be different.”
And that’s really the key here. What you see in the gym, especially when there’s hierarchy, seniority, or mentorship involved, is often not a true reflection of competitive reality. There are social dynamics at play; deference, restraint, politeness. Fight night strips all of that away.
I think that’s what’s happening here.

All hype and no substance. Gable is going to get wrecked when he faces legit competition, but if he does somehow win, then maybe he is the real deal. People need to chill the fuck out with calling him a future GOAtT already, though.

THIS. What Gable has is potential. Nothing more and nothing less. I would love to see a gifted fighter coached by a legendary fighter become a p4p champ. Even better if he is a good person while doing it, and even better if Jones is able to finally get that fucking monkey (his sociopath/predatory psyche) off his back and return to civilized society by transitioning into a respectable coach. BUT THAT IS NOT THE WORLD RIGHT NOW.

Remember what Brock looked like before he was punched with serious intent? It takes more than talent and physical gifts to make it in a fight (in life too). He's a prospect worth keeping an eye on, let's see what he can do.

BJJ specialists always run into the same hurdles once they get to the UFC level in MMA, the majority anyway. Werdum, Maia, Big Nog.... these are the exceptional few that survived that learning curve and managed to meaningfully improve their overall game.

Guys like Buchecha and Rodolfo V. are simply too limited to impose their jj on a consistent basis

He is a future UFC HW champ. I think many people don’t realize just how important of a prospect this is for HW mma especially at just 25 years old. Get on board the train and watch as he runs his competition the fuck over. He is going down as a great in this sport.

25 years old
Gold medalist wrestler
Elite athleticism
KO power
Serviceable boxing (that will only improve)
Coached by multiple combat sport GOAT’s

May have fought “taxi drivers” but displayed cage generalship and poise far beyond his in cage level. Is stringing his striking to takedowns and passes together fucking flawlessly already. Also his GnP looks hellacious. Guy is going to be a BIG problem for everyone in his way.

This sounds like the sherdogger who hyped up Robelis Despaigne after his big win over Josh Parisian.

I could design a better belt in ms paint and I'm not even part of the shoop squad.

Lol not my fault you apparently don’t know what you’re looking at. I’ve been watching combat sports since the late 90’s. I’ve also participated in MMA at a decently high level most of my life Gable checks the boxes. His skills pass the eye test as it relates to MMA. He is the most elite in the world when it comes to the most dominant aspect of a MMA fight. He is young, hungry and not here to take part he’s going to take over. Stay tuned.
