Jon Jones seems to want to roll the dice with bench trials

Do you have the same prior history as Jones and were you driving impaired?

Also, a Crown's leniency only goes so far. As soon as the prosecutor figures out you're gaming the system and wasting everyone's time on purpose, you're getting smacked down eventually. Some things get dismissed. Impaired driving and threatening a cop... they're not going to let this slide easily. He's got a history of slaps on the wrist already.

Jon doesn't seem exceptionally brilliant when it comes to public speaking and police officers. Matter of time.

You think a prosecutor is going to go hard on Jones over some misdemeanors? They do not give a shit. This stuff is just some fines.

I wish all trials had livestreams so we could watch. I want to be there when Teflon Jon finally runs out of luck.

Never saw him lose in the cage so take what you can get, I suppose.

Either Jon is being an egomaniac and not listening to council. Or his council has a very good feeling they can just take the case down and think it's worth the risk ,

Reading the article it seems like his lawyer thinks they won't see a court room.
His lawyer's an idiot. He's not going to get Jones off by claiming he's being charged twice for the same crime. It's clearly two distinct crimes. There was the hit and run. And then later Jon Jones threatened a police officer over the phone.

If you get drunk & hit 4 people with your car + kill them, you get charged with 4 crimes for the 1 incident. It's very common for multiple charges to result from the same incident.

Doubling up on charges would be charging him with Use of the Telephone to threaten, and then charging him with interfering with a police officers duty for the same threats. That's charging someone twice for the same crime.

His lawyer isn't going to win that argument. He's just hoping and praying one of the charges gets dropped.

Caught up with crimes and prison time so he doesn’t get HL reel KTFO…

I can hespect the commitment

If his lawyers get the case dismissed or he's found not guilty on both charges, I will have to retract my criticism of them and eat my words. I think his lawyer is an idiot though for complaining about the two charges -- it's clearly two different crimes.

IMO I agree with other people saying the Plea Deal being offered to Jones includes jail time, and Jon is being an egomaniac refusing to go to jail. Under those circumstances, Jon's lawyers have to do the best they can, although I really don't see how they'll pull a rabbit out of the hat here. Their best chance is to file for continuances, try to get the two charges combined into the same bench trial, and then just delay as long as possible and hope the prosecution offer a better Plea Deal later on.

So if someone was alleged to have driven impaired but wasn't at the scene, how is that proven? Blood tests are often required because they're much more definitive than breathalyzers.

And while eyewitness statements do contribute, I'd imagine courts typically need more empirical evidence.
I think it would be pretty easy to convince a jury that Jon (with his history of identical acts, his behavior at the scene of the crime and his behavior during the investigation) was impaired.

Jon Jones and reasonable doubt don't go well together.

Would probably be nice for his family to get a break from him though.

Or a term of supervision, or up to a year in jail. They likely won't happen, but they are options
