Jon Jones Likely Has Nothing For Ciryl Gane

It’s nice to see Dana White back on the Jones band wagon… at least until he isn’t again.

I have no idea why anybody thinks that because Jones "struggled" with MWs/LHWs because he's lost a step he also will against HWs.

HWs aren't faster than MWs/LHWs. They're slower. And generally far less technical as they can just rely on power.

If Jones has lost a step then moving to HW is far more likely to correct this than make it worse. There's a reason why HWs can still be so successful later in life compared to other weight classes and it's certainly not because they need to rely on physical attributes.
Well Gane isn't one of those less technology fighters. He's very technical

Depends on which Jones we get. Will it be the straight up killer that destroyed the LHW divisions for years. Or, will it be the boring and cautious point fighter that we got in his last few fights. Given his age and ring rust, I'm afraid it could be the latter. But, maybe he'll be reinvigorated.

I fully expect Jones to go for a clinch and drag Gane to the floor inside the first 2 minutes. He isn't trading kick boxing shots with a guy who hits harder.

The question is going to be can Gane maintain space and stuff the shot when it comes

Only 1 year ago Ciryl Gane fought and lost against a man that came into the cage partially crippled with 2 blown out knees and still Gane couldn't stop being taken down and held down. Even though I hate Jon Jones he's a going to easily take Gane down and smash him. You can't have 0 wrestling and TDD and think you are going to be great at TDD in 1 years time it just doesn't happen.
When was the last time Jones used offensive wrestling?

I've seen Jones lose stand-up fights to Reyes and Santos

Because he looked slow vs OSP and that was 6 years ago. He is 35 now ... seems like yesterday, but it was oh so long ago.

Maybe, but Jones will be battling ring rust and that extra weight is gonna blow him up. Also, not a spring chicken.

Anything can happen I suppose but Jones is older and inactive, while Gane is arguably a better striker than, lets say Gus, and also hits harder than Gus did back in the day. That TD defence tho

Jones is an inferior striker to Gane, lacks traditional knockout power, and doesn't have the conditioning to grapple as he did when he was a younger man. Jon arguably lost his last two fights at LHW and definitely would have lost his last fight if not for incompetent judging.

Gane in his last fight became the first fighter to KO Tai Tuivasa who had only been TKOd previously. Gane appears to be sitting down more on his punches since the loss to Ngannou. It is questionable whether Jones can handle that type of knockout power.

What exactly does a path to victory for Jones look like because it is difficult to see a clear one?

Have you seen Cyril on the mat?

If Jones manages to get on top he is done

Jon can probably get him down if they clinch.

Gane isn't a great grappler.

Jones is most certainly a better wrestler than Francis, and by the looks of the last HW title fight, may be able to control Gane on the ground.

That is a terrible proposition, and I would hate to see such a fight happen; but really, Jon matches up well against anyone without a lot of grappling.

HW division just sucks and is dependent on Aspinall to stop breaking his own legs to have a well-rounded champ; I don't see any indication that there is another exception to the sucky HW rules.
Funny. I think Gane beats Aspinall.

TDD isn't as hard to work as offensive wrestling.
Idk man. I'm sure he already knew how to sprawl, but to get actually good defensively is difficult. Takes more than a year.

Also, I don't think I was comparing defense to offense?

Imagine if Gane beats the crap out of Jon for like 7-8 minutes and gets a TKO?

Chicken legged Jon is goat I wonder how they look at hw <Lmaoo>RAZZjvr.jpeg

For you to pretend you will know Jones conditioning level is a joke.
He has never gassed in a fight before and its very possible he will have a bigger tank without needing to cut weight.

We already know how Ganes fights and it's no secret to Jon Jones either. Jon can take this fight in so many directions.

Even a washed up Jones has plenty to give

Jon Jones is no dummy and neither is his fight team Jackson - Wink MMA. They all know Gane has a big weakness and its his TDD and fighting off his back.

Jon slowly bulked up so 3 years is more than enough time to become comfortable with the extra weight. Gane has a real problem as Jon has an 84.5 inch reach compared only 81 for Gane. This means Gane will have to work his way inside as Jon starts landing those oblique strikes to the knee those same strikes that destroyed Thiago Santos's knees to the point he was never the same fighter after that point. Jon Jones has more weapons in his arsenal both in stand up and on the ground whereas Gane is a one trick pony he's all stand up fighting whereas on the ground on his back he looks like a confused turtle.

So Jon getting older and fatter is going to help him against a faster and better conditioned HW?
