Jon Jones isnt the GOAT, true GOATS are must watch fighters. Jones isnt that.

Excitement has never, and should never be a factor when ranking all-time greats. It's a silly and entirely subjective criteria that cannot be objectively judged.

I do agree that Jones is not the GOAT, but for completely different reasons.

1. His level of competition is lacking when compared to GSP (the obvious GOAT)
2. He's a steroid cheat
Your kidding about the level of competition right?

The facts dont lie. Without steroids Jones isnt an exciting fighter. His fights are uneventful and nothing anyone should plan around. Its the type of fight you watch highlights of on ESPN and nod your head as if you expected this all along.

The OSP fight was terrible. Then he fought DC a second time and won by TKO but he tested positive for steroids and his win was overturned. Fast forward to the Gus fight which was a snoozer even though Jones won by TKO. Watching the fight up until that point felt like watching paint dry. The fight against Anthony Smith was a snoozer as well where we watched Jones lay on a journeyman MW for 5 rounds while being unable to finish him or do any significant damage. Then we have the fight with Santos where Juice Jones is fighting another MW journeyman who got TKOd by the likes of David Branch who BLOWS HIS KNEE OUT IN THE FIRST ROUND and Jones still cant finish this guy and puts on a SNOOZER again where he does nothing for 5 rounds and even runs away in the closing seconds. One could even argue that he lost rounds 1,2 and 5. Truly lackluster and unexciting.

Jones is by FAR the most boring champion in the sport since GSP got neutered by Serra and went on his blanket run. After such uneventful performances against a washed up Gus and two MW journeymen, its hard to imagine that anyone cares about watching another Jon Jones fight. Add that to the fact this man tested positive 3x and refuses to fight at HW even though hes bigger than Arlovski and you have someone who doesnt deserve to be called the GOAT. You have someone Dana White describes as a "Sport Killer."

To be the GOAT means you are a MUST WATCH fighter who is dominant AND brings exciting moments in the cage/ ring. Jones isnt that hasnt been that for a long time. Probably since the OSP fight because thats where he couldnt use steroids anymore. The UFC fanboys need to accept this fact that Jones isnt the GOAT and that he is a downright boring fighter and nothing he can do from this point on can change this.

Lyoto was in his prime. Also DC x2 and Gus x2 is more impressive than GSPs whole resume.

dc wins are part of his ped usage so they dont count and first gus fight he lost and 2nd one he was still busted for peds.

lyoto still was a middle weight fighting at lhw.

LOL you anti jones dick eaters are the antifa of MMA. GOATS can’t get knocked out by LHW wrasslers like Ryan Bader who Jon Jones raped in both their primes.

Bones' opponents were better than GSPs.

And he finished them.

So that leaves GSP out of GOAT discussion in your opinion?

This thread is super amusing because relative to prize fighters(or sports) over history, nobody watched Fedor.

He was a cult hit in a C level sport

It's "must watch" for the few MMA dorks that were waiting for the torrent to download after he fought, and new MMA fans trying to get up on history.

Jones has had three boring fights in his career. Maybe four. Shit happens. But popularity has zero to do with being the GOAT, that's the sort of shit a Conor fan would say. But even if he were Jones was already the GOAT when his fights started getting boring, he didn't NEED anything extra(unlike GSP). Up until the Glover fight he was providing an exciting experience every single time, it's why Jones is the biggest draw in the sport right now who didn't have a feud that escalated to borderline terrorism(on both sides) in order to attract people. Smith, OSP and Glover just didn't have anything for him IMO and couldn't force Jones into situations where he'd fight serious. That's on them and the UFC for giving them shots.

Santos fight was a pretty solid fight, think people who say Santos won are being crazy but it was a pretty entertaining fight. Santos also blew out his knee in the SECOND round and that detail is important cause somehow getting only 1-2 rounds of good action doesn't make HW boring to all the Jones haters.

I love how when he doesn't destroy someone as expected he's "off the roids" but when he does he's "juiced to the gills", lol.

What happened to the " USADA free pass" and "Pulsing" that was the narrative prior to him fighting 5 rounds exactly where Santos wanted to fight and had the best chance of winning?

(Much like he did in DC 1) He could have been spamming TDs the second Santos was clearly compromised and buckling right in front of him on his fucked knee. Instead he watched him stumble and waited for him to regain his footing before continuing.

Just out of curiosity do you consider Whitaker a "WW Journeyman"? How about Rumble?

Make no mistake, Jones is definitely must see TV because you never know what he's going to do and we know he's capable of extreme violence but also has a habit of fighting to his opponent's level when he is disinterested (OSP/ Smith) or playing just to see if he can (like Anderson used too) when faced with an interesting challenge (Santos).

When you achieve this level of dominance you can become bored with how easy things have become and actually go out of your way to try and find some adversity (again, much like Anderson) unfortunately for him though, unlike Anderson he doesn't have the precision and power to finish at any moment on the feet.

He's not GOAT because he's been busted multiple times in the USADA era for steroids and had suspicious testosterone levels even before USADA when he fought DC the first time. The rest of his fights were against big names, but most of whom were past their prime or natural Middleweights.

If Jones isn't a must watch fighter then nobody is. I will never miss a Jones fight. And neither will any of my friends that watch mma with me.
friends watched the fight at a bar and told me that people were booing jones, especially after he won. I know lots of people who think jones is the goat, at the same time admit he has become boring to watch

Lol @ comparing prime Mirko and Nog to Forrest and Belfort and MW Hendo who sucked at MW. UFC bias spotted.
I said those 4 wins even to those two wins. If math isn't your strong point that means not one of Anderson's wins alone is worth a Crop Cop, Big Nog win. Literally think a scale. You drop those two names on one side, and they even the 4 names on the next. I get it, you're a huge Fedor fan, he's a great. Don't let your fandom for him diminish your reading comprehension.

Edit: Don't leave out Franklin, either. He's a bad dude. Beat Wanderlei twice, so you can't say it was a Leben like fluke.

He's taken a weird turn, that's for sure. It's the GSP tactic of playing it safe, but he played it so safe that he nearly lost.

Jones just isn't comfortable with heavy hands. He had to tie up with DC to neutralize him in the first fight, and he was arguably losing before the head kick in the second fight.

Go back to the rampage fight. Rampage was a crazy KO artist back then and Jones happily closed the distance and beat him up in the clinch. That was a hungry Jones with something to o prove. Now he's determined to win at the sake of minimiaing all risk. He didn't stand with Santos for 5 rounds because he wanted the challenge - he was worries about getting clipped closing the distance.

The 'knee teep, thigh side kick, circle-circle Jones' is the worst. I'd rather he used his wrestling more if he doesn't want to engage on the feet. There's no reason he couldn't have just grounded Santos and pounded him out in a round or two. Especially given Santos was on one leg. Jones didn't even want to get close enough to shoot, let alone let his hands go. A loss might do him good. I want to see 'spinning elbow, flying knwe, slams to elbows to the face' Jones back.
