Jon Jones is -725 favorite vs Stipe

Stipe has a low chance of winning, he hasn't fought a while, aged, and who knows how hard he's been training with this time off. It's a really bad look for Jones, who's next on his list Fedor, Cain?

Should be -1000 if we're being serious.

People still think the Stipe who beat DC is going to show up and he's not.

So, 2 fights ago? I don't get why everyone thinks Stipe can't fight anymore. He lost to Ngannou, big deal, so does everyone else.

Yeah he's aged a few years, maybe a few "key" years, but how does that make him an invalid?

I live in NYC and won’t be seeing this in person because of this ridiculous match up. If they drop ticket prices to $150 I’d think about it, but really don’t want to support this ridiculous shit with my money

Normally, when you see -725, it means you’re so much better than your opponent. But in this case, it just shows how washed the opponent is...
...BELIEVED to be.

I'm not saying it isn't a reasonable assumption. But it is an assumption. That long stretch of inactivity is also a black hole of any real information about the state of Stipe.

All we and the oddsmakers have at this point is the truisim that age is the undefeated champion of all. And it is a very powerful general rule. But which fighter was it that got grievously injured in training and had to pull out from their first booking, hmmm?

Stipe hasn't won a fight against anyone currently in the UFC, and hasn't won a fight since pre-covid.
He's a guy who's been retired for years and is now well into his 40s. Those odds are pretty reasonable.
The third DC fight was in the middle of Covid

In any case, these odds are way off. It’s a mistake to assume stipe has nothing left or isn’t dangerous based on the Francis fight for a couple reasons.

I do see why people are upset about the title implications and I agree, this fight is way less about the title and shouldn’t be holding up the title picture. But this is still a great fight and I I would be shocked if this is some easy walkover fight for jones.

2 fights ago was 4 and a half years ago you fuckwit

May as well go after Royce at this stage

If you’re a fan of this legacy fight, you’re the problem with mma. This is not a job interview, it’s an mma fight. Don’t throw out resumes when there’s Aspinall the top contender. Aspinall is the next generation. And I want to see next generation vs old guard(like Topuria vs Holloway). That way it shows legitimacy of the HW belt.
Is Stipe is even 75% of his prime fighting form

this will be a walk in the park for him
Bad stylistic matchup for Jon

Just because of who Stipe is and what he does for a living, Id be willing to be that dude is always in shape. I used to do a lot of work for multiple fire departments in my state and there are always a couple of seriously in shape guys at every fire house and a bunch of fatasses that sit around and cook lasagna. Id be willing to bet he's in the first group.

And is 42 really that old? Maybe for the lighter weight classes but Jones isnt going to KO anyone and I just dont see the 5 year spread between them being that big of a deal. And maybe the long layoff was good for him. There are a ton of unknowns and I just dont think -725 is warranted. Jon hasn't looked great in several of his last fights and Stipe isnt coming in for a paycheck, he's coming in to win.

We know what matchup should have been made and instead we get this. I really hope Stipe gets the job done.

The belt being on the line is what’s so incredibly insulting. It’s outrageous. Best of luck to Miocic. Fuck the fake champ. It’ll all be over soon.

I am not a big fan of this fight. That being said people are absolutely writing Stipe off and I think that's a mistake.

It’s a good thing he’s not a bookie. Either he’s clueless or a bad liar.

Odds should be more like 60/40 that Stipe beats Jones. Jones just had a major pec injury, chances are he's not going to be the same fighter afterwards.

I don't understand why Sherdog exaggerates what a mismatch this is. Stipe had two wins against DC then the Ngannou loss and hasn't fought in years, but Jones is coming off basically a Dom Reyes loss and the win over Gane is the only difference in their activity level.

Jones has had one HW fight and it was against an opponent that he could exploit, whereas Stipe has a wrestling background. Jones had no power even at LHW. Sure he is the favorite to win a decision but is it really such a gimme that he will dominate Stipe for all rounds without experiencing any threat of danger from Stipe's superior boxing? And he's 42 with a ton of time to rest and recover, it's not that ancient for a HW.
