Jon Jones is -725 favorite vs Stipe

Noone is a fan of this fight except Jon Jones and Dans white for reasons unknown
If you’re a fan of this legacy fight, you’re the problem with mma.

I'm honestly starting to think that this is more for dana white. It's a career moment for him putting together a fight like this that almost never gets made. having jones fight stipe means the most to dana white's career than it does either of the other 2 guys. I'm inclined to think this fight is really for dana. That's why he's so defensive about it.

What the fuk that is 7 to 1 that is massive.. I don´t believe it miocic is definitely dangerous and that odds is not realistic
Backing Stipe means you're counting on him to chin check someone who has never been hurt badly, is younger, has less wear and tear and isn't coming off a massive layoff after getting brutally KO'd. Not to mention the injuries Miocic must be dealing with.

The reason for the odds is that no one with big money is backing Stipe, they all think Jones wins easily and have hammered him. I'll check at what value Jones opened, think it was in the -300/-400 range.

That's way too big imo.
We don't really know what Stipe shows up to be honest. The fact that he was knocked out by Francis doesn't mean anything in this match up since Jon probably won't knock him out.

The long layoff and age is a factor of course but Stipe is a hard worker, have a championship mindset and is a beast still i think. Also should have good enough wrestling to not be manhandled like Gane.

I honestly wouldn't be surprised if it's a war.
I would be more surprised if Jones walks through him and finishes him inside a round.

According to bestfightodds Jones opened as a -300 favorite, so indeed his line has just been hammered to its current state because even Stipe's family thinks he's a goner.

Normally, when you see -725, it means you’re so much better than your opponent. But in this case, it just shows how washed the opponent is. Any HW in the top 5 would be a big favorite vs Stipe now.

If you’re a fan of this legacy fight, you’re the problem with mma. This is not a job interview, it’s an mma fight. Don’t throw out resumes when there’s Aspinall the top contender. Aspinall is the next generation. And I want to see next generation vs old guard(like Topuria vs Holloway). That way it shows legitimacy of the HW belt.
It's funny. I go to a lot of the fights in New York/New Jersey in person. I won't be attending this event. I'm not happy that we just had a great event in Abu Dhabi and now Stipe vs Jon Jones at MSG. It's not a great trend for the sport in the U.S..

Chris Weidman is on the main card. Dana should be ashamed of putting this event on at MSG.

He's 42 and hasn't been active. There is no reason to think he has the capability to bee competitive with Jones at this point. He might have 1 good round but that's it.

This isn't a Randy Couture situation where he started MMA as a middle aged man and went from there up until he was senile nor a Hendo situation where TRT gave him a new lease of life, this is just an old, broken down fighter cashing in one last big paycheck.

I'd throw reasonable money on Stipe if it pays out when Jones pisses hot again.

But MMA only having guidelines on things like cheating means my money shall be unwagered

Won't happen, Jones ego is too big to risk his legacy

There are reasons it won't happen, but the Saudis can buy out an ego. They've already done it multiple times in boxing.

Jones has been fucked harder by U Fight Cheap relative to his value than anyone outside Conor and Ronda. The court documents showed his pay has been laughably pathetic given the PPV buys he has brought in.

He wouldn't turn down the payday if he could get it.

I don't care enough about this fight to even complain about it, lol.
Same haha. I'm just praying to the MMA gods that Stipe gets a freak KO. After all this waisted time it would genuinely be one of the funniest MMA moments ever, even if Dana White gloating after would make it bittersweet.

I am looking forward to this fight. I just hate the fact that the belt is on the line. Jones should have vacated after the injury, like Jiri and Hill did.

So you would take this fight over Jones Aspinal or Jones Ngannou?

That could very well be the case. I wouldn't be shocked either.
But we just don't know at this point in time to be sure. He hasn't shown evidence in the cage for that.
Also, Jon isn't the youngest and in his prime either, something to keep in mind. He also has almost no HW fighting experience. This can come into play should the fight go longer.

Maybe read my comment? If Jones gave the belt up for grabs after the injury, Aspinall would be the champion right now. Jon - Stipe would just be a fun, legacy fight. Ngannou is not in the UFC, so it is a moot point. 3-4 years ago Ngannou - Jones was the fight to make.

This is HW and Stipe has 10x more power than pillow fisted Jon.

I'll definately be putting money down on Stipe with those odds.
Sincerely wishing you best of luck!!

Agree with you entirely. Joke of a fight for the heavyweight strap, but I'm not against these legacy type fights in general when there's no real consequences.

Stipe hasn't won a fight against anyone currently in the UFC, and hasn't won a fight since pre-covid.
He's a guy who's been retired for years and is now well into his 40s. Those odds are pretty reasonable.

Funny how odds seem to get people riled up. Every time people mention this matchup it's "after Jones beats Stipe" like it's an automatic assumption.

Honestly worth a solid bet. With all the veterans going down lately I honestly wouldn't be overly shocked to see Jones lose,

Well in spite of being a doper and a degenerate Jones is one of the greatest of all time and is 5 years younger and Stipe hasn't fought in 4 years. Jones should be a bug favorite.
