Jon Jones initial charges dismissed, but still faces two charges in another trial

Would've made sense in the first hit and run when he did leave the scene twice, the second time with his cash and drugs
God, I'm so glad we have a video of that. People here would never have believed it if we didn't see it.

OK so after doing some more research, it seems like Jon Jones was charged twice for the exact same "leaving the scene" misdemeanor, and the one dismissed today was simply a duplicate charge.
so double jeopardy, res judica

I should diss the american justice system, but sadly its the same here also. Honorable mention to the uk as well.

Celebrities and politicians do 0 jail time unless caught red handed with murder or cp. The few exceptions to the rule are nobodies you never heard of.

Still, I would give jones a 30% chance to go to jail within one decade.

Sort of. Strictly speaking, Double jeopardy only applies when you've been acquitted or convicted of a crime, or if there is an ongoing trial for the same crime.

This seems like it was done because New Mexico has a mandatory joinder rule for all charges related the same crime spree. In other words, they have to charge him for fleeing the scene & threatening the police in the same trial. Once they start a trial for one of those charges separately, they can no longer charge him for the other.

It seems they added the fleeing the scene charge to his threatening the police case, and then dismissed this individual charge, which if they proceeded would trigger a kind of double jeopardy, but one that also prevents them from charging him with threatening the police.
