I couldn’t be any less hyped for Matt Reeves Batman after seeing The Joker

I feel like the movie never really got to that next level. The Dark Knight is probably the better movie.

Phoenix tho is really good

It just needed to go deeper into who the Joker is. Right now it’s very much just surface level shit

Agreed. If the movie is as good as the reviews say, it sets the bar for DC movies so high I can't see how a non-R Rated Batman movie can match it.

Batman in this universe would be an outcast just like Joker

Not a hero at all but a full-on crazy vigilant murder

I'd be down for it

Given how many acid attacks there are in the real world, Two Face would fit in easily as well. Penguin could have a Tyson-like backstory. A shy, ugly kid who keeps birds as pets. When a bully kills one of his birds, Penguin finally snaps and beats the bully to death. In doing so he discovers a talent and taste for violence that serve him well in the criminal underworld.

Instead of that, we are going to get Jonah Hill playing The Riddler

Actually good....... the build up could have been much shorter. Needed much more full on Joker time. Phoenix is great as as always but just they needed more Joker in Joker. Especially since this film is a 1 off n Phoenix will never do a sequel.

Infinity war was great. End game was disappointing
Yeah it really was.

They have the power of the stones right there, yet they go with hokey ass time travel that stark "figures ouf" in a day. Derp.

Infinity war set up Thanos' depth, and even potential redemption based on his love for gamora. That was the interesting part of what was set up, and they ditched it.

With Thanos "Now I want to destroy the whole universe" BS in the final fight scene, even that act was ruined. RDJ can act and Chris Evans was a good on screen Cap; that saved the movie from being literally completely stupid.

JP the consummate method actor IMO.
chooses scripts selectively and with purpose and then nails it.

very sad that DDL is apparently done doing the same.
GOAT dramatic actor.

DDL apparently retired.

This was a disturbing watch. Not exactly how I care to see comic book characters in film but it was interesting to see it taken in this direction nonetheless. Phoenix was great. The descent into further madness was was gripping. The last part of the movie was very intense. I want to watch it again but it’s really not a ‘theatre movie’ for me. I will wait until I can watch it in the comfort of my home next time.

Same here. 4k though

Yea I'll actually be doing the 4k HDR thing. I'm just so used to saying "waiting for bluray". Not even sure what they call 4k. Is it just waiting for the 4k?

Would it be worth it for Joaquin to die of an OD?

Seems he’s getting awards buzz already, so maybe unnecessary?

I'm seeing it tonight and I'm stoked.

Last Friday night, I watched Taxi Driver for the first time. Everyone was making comparisons to these two movies, so I figured I'd watch it to get a better understanding of what I was getting in to. Taxi Driver had me engaged from opening scene to closing. If Joker is anything like that, I can tell you already that I'll be pleased.

I know.
That's why I said it's sad he's done.

I agree it's sad, he could easily transition to playing older roles and just do supporting roles not lead roles. I can see him playing the senior guy who's giving advice to his young pupil. He could easily have epic monologues even the older he gets. I know he semi-retired before quite a few times actually. 5 year lay off his longest. So who know's it could be just another semi-retirement. We just have to wait another 4 years to see if he changes his mind again. But unfortunately this is the first time he officially said he's retired. So this could be it sadly.

There's plenty of movies with Joker being Joker. This is a pre-Joker and it's refreshingly different. You want more of it because you know this version is awesome.

I don't think Phoenix is on record and personally stated that it's a one and done movie (or maybe he is and I haven't seen that interview yet). The director stated as such but things change. If the movie does incredibly well and the public demands a sequel they'd be crazy not to do it (or at least consider it). Hell they may throw this version of the Joker back into their broken DC universe. There are no Jokers for the upcoming new Batman movie with Patterson so he could easily slide into that universe in those sequels if Phoenix really wanted to do it. Problem with Phoenix though is they will have to create an awesome script that will interest him.
