i liked the artistic side of the movie, how its shot and the whole visual thing, the camera, the background, the set etc. very crafty directors work. the soundtrack fits too, which is mostly the weak spot of todays movies. in this movie, everything makes sense and it flows well.
the story itself is not groundbreaking and a bit simple, but its a solid 7.5-8 movie overall. a classic for sure. surprisingly good for the current state of hollywood.

Movie was brilliant and arguably the best comic movie ever made. More of this DC and less Marvel-lite movies, please.

Liked the movie, but it was very weak on how he started a riot and him getting on the talk show made no sense. Also I can't believe how skinny he got.

People are already miserable in Gotham, living in desperate times and the city was a ticking time bomb. Hell, people in America have rioted over much, much less like their favorite sports team winning a championship. I think you missed Thomas Wayne calling all lower class people "clowns" and white washing those three corporate douchebags Arthur Fleck murdered/killed in self defense.

I know a lot of people think Robert is better. But keep in mind that he has a more impressive resume, partly because he is older and has made more movies. Also, being in better movies is different than being a better actor. Also, also, keep in mind that Joaquin has better range. De Niro is really good at playing one type of guy, and pretty good at playing others.

I would say this movie touched far more emotional nerves than Taxi Driver. It might be better. Pheonix needs a couple more iconic roles before I could say he's better than Bob overall.

I agree 100% that Bob has been in more classic movies. No doubt. But strictly on a skill-based level, I think Joaquin is better. There is a lot more than just great acting that makes a movie amazing, so the actor doesn't get all the credit. Rob's three most iconic movies were Raging Bull, Taxi Driver and maybe Cape Fear. But being in better movies doesn't automatically make you the better actor.

I mean, I think Brando and DDL are better actors than De Niro as well. But most people would agree that neither of those two guys have had the starring role in as many iconic movies (although maybe Brando has, but they are old ass movies). But purely on a skill-based rating, and on range, Brando and DDL are better actors than Bobby in my book.

Recency bias is definitely a thing, we all remember The Dark Knight beating Shawshank Redemption & The Godfather on imdb’s all-time greatest list when it came out. Lol.

Bobby D’s classic work doesn’t need defending, it speaks for itself.

And as for gifs... no need to get pithy with me.

Unlike TDK, Joker should stand the test of time on IMDB.
Fuck IMDb scores.

I'm starting to think all that was in his head, like the girlfriend.

I think once he stopped taking his medication all the events are open to interpretation.

Maybe that guy didn't even give him the gun and he got hold of it himself somehow.

Didn't he get the gun before he stopped taking his meds?

Awakenings was a great performance.

I've never seen it.

Edit: Oh no! It has Robin Williams in it. I can't watch it now.
It has a line from the voice of Marge Simpson at the end that pretty much sums it all up, including Robin, and makes it even more of a must watch.

I don’t agree, but to each their own. I’m only gonna fight a Joaquin fanatic so hard, the guy is great.

Absolutely no way Cape Fear is more iconic than Godfather 2, Goodfellas , and Casino . You could argue the performance is better than Casino or Goodfellas but no way better than Godfather 2.

I really really disliked the movie, although I knew the movie snobs would rave about it because of how "deep" it was. And I know this is blasphemy, but Phoenix sucked in the movie. I get the laughing constantly is supposed to show that he was crazy. But it was annoying as hell. If I need something to be ungodly annoying to show reality, then I guess I don't want reality. But worse than that, it didn't even sound realistic. And not in a crazy person making fake laughs kind of way. It was in more of a Jouaqin (sp) Phoenix making fake laughs in order to sound like a crazy person making fake laughs kind of way. I liken it to Christian Bale as Batman. For him, no matter how good he may have been as Batman, his voice was so annoying, that is all I remember. In this movie I will just remember that forced, lame laugh.

Although if Zazie Beetz was in it more, I could have watched it for 5 more hours. That woman is perfect

But of course Phoenix will win an oscar because its an automatic thing when a big name actor plays a retarded person/mentally ill person

On a side note, why would deniro's character not recognize jokes as not having been on his show before? i may have missed an explanation while my mind was wandering.
