Jiri just said on his Instagram story that this fight is not official.
Just saw the clip.
He said the fight is not confirmed yet, they’re still negotiating, but that he would like to fight before the end of March (hopefully for the title), because in April it’s time for baby Jiri :)

-Alonzo was #11 on a 5 fight unbeaten streak. (Good entrance into the ranks)

-Volkan was #8, bouncing around the middle of the rankings off of 2 ranked wins. (Solid proving fight, against a guy cemented in the ranks)

-Jan had a completely stalled momentum, but was still ranked #3 (High profile opponent and one of the toughest challenges in the division)

-Reyes was the next most momentum heavy contender, #7 with a 3 fight KO streak over ranked opponents. (The necessary move for a guy at the top of the division without a big momentum win to making themselves a contender: by beating whoever is carrying a streak behind you)

These 4 ranked wins added to a prior 5 wins, giving Carlos a 9 fight win streak. And not some Belal/Merab, "Oh, we don't like that it's all grinding decisions so that's why he has to win more and get some finishes" streak either. 6 of them were stoppages, 5 in the first round, and 3 POTN bonuses.

It would be crazy if this is just a title eliminator
Wow, that's an amazing string of wins.....

The division is what the division is. If everyone thinks there's only 4 contenders worth beating, then what is everyone else supposed to do when those 4 spend a full 2 years of the divisions time each getting their title shots (sometimes twice), and either rematching the champ and trading titles or having a full round robin tournament between themselves?

Jan was the good win. He's the one who gave Alex his toughest fight and drew Ank. When Jiri, Hill, or Rountree do anything like that, then people can pick up the phone. Otherwise, it's one of the better streaks that exists in any division today

Agreed that Ulberg is clearly next in line, but it just speaks to how depressing LHW is when his best opponent was 42 years old and coming off of double shoulder surgery, and it was still a debatable decision that could've gone either wqy.

Just let Ulberg get a title shot.
I don't need to see Jiri win and get smoked again by Poatan.
Yea, jiri's cool and all but i'd rather see something that's not another rematch. However this fight is fine. I just hope ulberg wins so we don't see jiri vs poatan 234235235

This makes no sense as a title eliminator. Alex should be moving to HW to fight Jones or if Tom is out longer than summer do an interim HW title fight vs Gane.

So this LHW fight needs to either be for vacant belt or even interim fight if Alex is staying but is out till summer. Nobody likes interim fights but with new tv deal they just signed and a blind HW champ, LW champ who has personal issues, MW champ needs surgery you have to fill these cards with title fights.

Neither guy should be accepting this fight as just a reg fight.

This would be a hell of a fight..... Ulberg stops Jiri..... Sub/not strikes, and I'll be cheering for random violence the entire time.

Both these guys are great.

The problem is that he had opportunity to fight top 3 fighters as title eliminator but rather fought Reyes. BTW Poatan situation was completely different due to current situation in LHW. Jiri got injured and vacated, Ankalaev with Jan fumbled, then Hill "won" title, and got injured aswell and vacated... Then UFC "fastened" Poatan to title and was looking for opponent for him.. Now its completely different situation and i hope that Ulberg get punished for blatant lying about elbow to get longer preparation.

Jiri probably wins bc he is really good but Poatan just has his number.

How many title shots does Jiri get?

I don’t follow mma much now but I’m sure it can be someone else
he is undefeated in UFC vs guys not named Alex Pereira and all his wins are top 5 guys, two of those ex-UFC champs.. he is also 32-5 overall career. 35 of his 37 fights have ended before the final bell and none of his UFC fights have needed to go the distance.

Yea my exact same thoughts. Just hoping for matchups i havn't seen before instead of rematches. this fight in itself should be fun to watch though.

100% agreed.

They made Islam vacate his belt for Duckpuria. This needs to be the standard. I'm a huge Pereira fan, but if he's moving to HW then he needs to vacate his belt. And if he's not vacating his belt, then either Jiri or Ulberg should be fighting him next for the title.

This is so stupid... why would you put someone who has not fought the champion, in an eliminator against someone who has already been finished by him twice?

Do we really need to see Jiri v Poatan 3?

Fun fight... it still makes no sense though.
