ESPN should just stay out of politics
I still can't get over how they canned like the entire hockey coverage group... and have Jonathan Coachman on late nights...I agree that the real problem is that she's a terrible sports anchor/personality. I miss Olbermann and Patrick, bigly.
You're insisting on this, but where's the argument? What aspect of right-wing thought does support for free speech come from?
You're not in the WR much, but I remember pointing out a factual error to you. I figured you'd correct it and move on. No such luck--you responded by attacking me and saying that I wouldn't have corrected the error with no basis at all. In another thread, after you similarly attacked my character, you asked me for my view on Damore, and I gave it. I called you into this thread to show that now that the shoe is on the other foot, there is no one from the right showing any consistency on that issue.
I always liked your HW posting (well, not *always*), but I get the sense that you don't think about the issues that come up in the WR as much and are more likely to make knee-jerk-type posts here.
I think if you make more of an effort to understand where I'm coming from intellectually, you'd see that I'm not partisan at all.
I just wanna know where you're getting Uber-based burgers. It sounds amazing.Uber is really stepping their game up lately
Uber Eats.I just wanna know where you're getting Uber-based burgers. It sounds amazing.
Oh like grubhub? Not interested. Now if someone made burgers in their car... this would be a different story.Uber Eats.
Kinda. My area doesn't have GrubHub.Oh like grubhub? Not interested. Now if someone made burgers in their car... this would be a different story.
Aaaaaaanyway, sorry you guys don't have cool jobs. ttyl
I don't think so, noShould James Damore have been fired from Google?
But Jemele Hill should have? Intellectual integrity, how does it work?I don't think so, no
As in I wouldn't have, and i agree entirely w/ virtually everything he said
but I understand why Google given their current ideology, did it.
he stated actual factsBut Jemele Hill should have? Intellectual integrity, how does it work?
It's not false. You said she should have been fired for what she said, but that James Damore should not have been. That's an absurd, and unexplainable, lapse in intellectual consistency. You're just another shitty tribalist hack.lost it at 'intellectual integrity' tho
i didn't make the false congruency playa hahah
She made a public statement via social media....It's not false. You said she should have been fired for what she said, but that James Damore should not have been. That's an absurd, and unexplainable, lapse in intellectual consistency. You're just another shitty tribalist hack.
That's why they suspended her.ESPN should just stay out of politics
The facts make your position even less tenable. She made a statement outside of work. He made a statement in work, and disrupted the work environment to some degree(Note: I don't think they should have fired him). She made a public statement via social media....
He circulated an employee only memo...
Totally congruent. At least try
LOL! So she should be free to speak but should be punished with a loss of livelihood for expressing views that are unacceptable to right-wingers. OK...
The topic here has kind of become, "What does free speech mean to you, and does it's definition change depending on the political statement being made?"
Personally, I don't think your freedom of speech protects you from your employer. So I guess I disagree with JackSavage on that (if I am reading him correctly). I know that I could get fired from my job if I said certain things in a public forum, and honestly I support that fact. There are certain things that I could say that should disqualify me from performing my particular job.
But where he's correct, is that there is no consistency in principles on this forum. I would have the same response no matter who said it. There is no political affiliation that could sway me to say or do something against my principles. Not even close, honestly.
But there are a lot of posters that seem to have no such principles. They don't even hide it particularly well.
I do not expect a response but I'll go ahead and throw it out.
Do you believe a company has a right to terminate an employee for making comments that the company views as offensive?
This question is regarding people making comments on their personal time not company time. Thank you
...My general view is that I support very expansive free speech when that is defined in opposition to gov't sanctions. When it comes to private companies' personnel decisions, I'm still in favor of protecting workers, but that does have to be balanced against other issues (PR and employee relations, most obviously). This particular issue seems to be in the gray zone, but I lean toward the view that the guy should be compensated or kept on board.
.... but yes to James Damore. That's precisely the point. Lots of liberals stood with James Damore (in the sense that he's an idiot but he shouldn't have been fired), but when the shoe is on the other foot, suddenly our allies in the free speech cause go missing.
