"Millionaire :eek::eek::eek:phile Jeffrey Epstein, who apparently killed himself while in federal custody in Manhattan, was taken off suicide watch in late July at the request of his attorneys, according to a report.

The disgraced money manager was found unresponsive in his single-inmate cell at the Metropolitan Correctional Center early Saturday and was declared dead at NewYork-Presbyterian Lower Manhattan Hospital.

Epstein had been meeting with his attorneys for up to 12 hours a day before they requested that he be taken off suicide watch, sources familiar with the matter told the Wall Street Journal."

12 hours a day? Lucky sumuma

Something just seems way off here. This just does not sound like a guy going to off himself

I seriously think he thought he was gonna walk.

So are you saying the jail was indeed not understaffed? And that non guards werent put in substitute roles as temporary guards? Because that is the issue here. Stop focusing so much on your Dear Leader's feelings and concern yourself with the facts. This jail did not have the funds to employ the appropriate amount of personnel.

Don't put too much stock in the monetary issues brought up due to budget cuts.
Staffing is an issue on every level of corrections. We've had 3 officers die in car accidents just this year from my jail due to car accidents after mandatory 16hr shifts. People aren't taking this job anymore.

Oh, they have the funds to pay the wages the union negotiated. People just arent willing to work those hours, under that stress, for that pay.

Many would rather make 5$ an hour less, in a far less demanding job.

The compensation for CO's isn't in line with the job.

We do not know yet. I do know that every cop I know works 60-70+ hours a week and they love it. It is why they make 6 figures a year.

I'm saying the narrative you are pushing is a very convenient one

Meh, that's cops. C.O overtime is blood money

I think most would rather work 70 hour weeks as a cop, than as a CO. I think the CO's job is far more demanding, and they make less.

Perhaps in your city, but NYC always has willing bodies to fill jobs.
A lot of the blame here goes directly to Deblasio:

In what way is it more demanding? Maybe more tedious and not as popular.

It couldn't be more different of a job.

Ever dealt with a cop that ran into a few assholes that day?

Imagine working 70 hours a week surrounded by many 100's of violent assholes, that aren't very happy.

Imagine working in the psyche ward where your job is to rush into a cell where an inmate just painted themselves and the cell in their own shit, and shoving pills down their throats.

Im in NYC. Deblasio has nothing to do with this. MCC is a federal jail.
Willing bodies, yeah I see wiling bodies wanting a job then run for the gates when the gates close behind them. The majority of the public is not built for this. Right now, theres a 60% chance a C.O isnt going to make it passed year one.

It has a much greater psychological toll. The guard is trapped in there with the inmates for the duration of his shift.

Also very little positive feedback.

Cop gets to feel like he caught the bad guy. Did something for society today.

CO gets nothing but negative feedback seeing the worst of humanity on a day in day out basis.
