It's October... Halloween/Horror Movies

Shit I can't even begin to imagine what Suspiria must look like on 4K, it would be awe inspiring.
I've not noticed any news about Inferno as yet but it is screaming out for 4K, it can't be long I would have thought.

Speaking of Argento's work I've seen all of his work except for FOUR FLIES ON GREY VELVET. I really have to get around to seeing that one.
How are you on his TRAUMA? A lot of folks were disappointed in it but I'm actually a fan of it. As far as I'm concerned it's his last really good film. I bought it on an import Blu-ray not only because of Argento's direction but because the screenplay was written by one of my favorite genre fiction authors T.E.D. Klein.

ahh yes, Black Sunday. i’d been meaning to watch that soon because i bought the Severin limited edition bluray of VIY & loved it. Black Sunday is loosely based on the same Gogol story, but what from i’ve heard, “loosely” is putting it nicely.

& yep, you can definitely see the slasher DNA of A Bay of Blood that would bring about Friday the 13th & other 80s slashers.

And one can't forget BLACK SABBATH another favorite from my childhood. Though I had a love/hate relationship with the movie as the old dead woman in the "A Drop of Water" part of the film never failed to terrify me. LOL.
Then there's the final part "The Wurdulak" which is also very effective.
And speaking of "The Wurdulak" there's a great 1972 Spanish film called NIGHT OF THE DEVILS that's another excellent adaption of that story.

No never seen Four Flies either, I'm going to hunt for it now and add it to the pile.

Speaking of Asia, my God. Talk about an ethereal, otherworldly beauty! She was absolutely stunning in person. Of course, she was just a kid at the time but it was impossible to look at her & not appreciate how beautiful she was. Like a piece of art.

And. yes, Klein's THE CEREMONIES is my favorite novel. Unfortunately, that was his only novel as he is notoriously non-prolific. Apparently he frequently suffers from writer's block & therefore hates the creative process of writing fiction so he very rarely does so. His only other book is DARK GODS a collection of four of his short novels.

I watched Resident Evil the other night. I thought it was ok. Holy shit, i didn't realize there are so many sequels. Not sure if i could watch all of those, but might check the second one out at some point. The action was decent, but the the flow of the movie was a little off. Seemed like it was pieces rather than one flowing story.

Also watched Bright Burn. Man, that had so much potential, but ultimately felt a little flat and rushed. It had some cool moments when the kid embraces his darker nature and abilities, but they could have made it longer and explored some character development and really built it up more. Wonder if they will do a sequel.

I've yet to see it as I adore the original so much, but I've heard nothing but good things about this remake.



Trick or Treat 1986 is another decent actual Halloween movie, just for having Gene Simmons and Ozzy Osbourne in it.
I need to rewatch Ginger Snaps one day

i second Argento’s legendary run being unmatched.

i loved it as well. it has one of the most disturbing death scenes i’ve ever seen in any horror movie. are you familiar w/ the choreography of Pina Bausch & Martha Graham? if not, i highly recommend Pina (the Wim Wenders documentary) & Martha Graham: Dance on Film. adds an extra layer of appreciation.

Suspiria is my favorite Argento, but i still loved the 2018 Suspiria. they are so different that it’s easy to view them as two unique entities, w/o one having to rely on the other for comparison.

i have an appreciation just for the fact those women were dancing like mad with their tits swinging about, lmao. shit must have been painful. i could never! but i did think a lot about the dancing in that film, as it's such a large element. i'll have to read some actor interviews, i imagine it must have been quite the film to work on, and shooting it had to have been difficult.

i have an appreciation just for the fact those women were dancing like mad with their tits swinging about, lmao. shit must have been painful. i could never! but i did think a lot about the dancing in that film, as it's such a large element. i'll have to read some actor interviews, i imagine it must have been quite the film to work on, and shooting it had to have been difficult.

My wife & I both really enjoyed the new SUSPIRIA & she was fascinated by the dancing as well. Being a former ballet dancer herself she found the choreography very interesting. The ballet wasn't technically all that good but it was never dull.

all the choreography was influenced by Pina & Graham; two of the most influential & cutting edge dancers/choreographers of modern dance. obviously i’m no expert, but i thought the actors & dancers comported themselves well considering how demanding the technique & style is. all the dance sequences rocked imo

Oh, I think they did a terrific job. But, like you, I'm no expert. My wife, on the other hand, was a dancer from the time she was two until she left for college so I wasn't going to argue with her. You have to understand though that her idea for perfect dancing in a film is BLACK SWAN. She was blown away by that.

oh, i don’t doubt her credentials & knowledge at all, but there is a drastic difference between classical dance & modern dance.
