For the last 15 years I’ve been making fun a karate and it’s uselessness. I started doubting myself after watching karate combat... now I’m really starting to doubt myself after taking my MMA kid to a karate tournament and seeing him lose.... the fights I saw at this tournament were incredible. Nothing like karate used to be. I think it has come full circle. I now have much respect for karate. When compared to some butt scoot tournaments we go to bjj May be the new point sparring of combat sports.
My son losing to a karate kid:
Which is why I always have to laugh when people think that MMA fighters are these invincible fighting gods on the street.
Groin shots, biting, eye-gouging, fish-hooking, guns, and knives > MMA
Bruce Lee and ninjas are still real to me dammit!
frank dux kicks as hard as a ford escort and I resent you making fun of thatSo pathetic.
To respond to OP, what do you mean Frank Dux didn't have a 75 mph kick in the kumite finals????
Imagine going back in time on some forum in the 80s on martial arts, trying to explain how daniel cormier's fighting technique is one of the best. Imagine how many times you would be inundated with claims that "I would just bite him if he tried to rear naked choke me". Imagine there's no heaven, it's easy if you try. Or dealing with a 200 lb 5'7 guy who wants to argue that his chi would obliterate anyone.
Biting would be a legitimate strategy in a real fight.
The thing about Bruce Lee though, is he was a very practical, highly intense guy...try actually reading some of the stuff he wrote and his interviews...he trained all the martial arts...boxing, kickboxing and judo/grappling...but remember, his goal was real fighting, not fighting in a cage, with tons of rules...
At the same time, it is a signal for escalation, meaning things get personal and nasty, eye gouges and groin shots are now fair game. You abase your honor and fight like an animal, so the opposition now has no qualms dealing with you in a dirty way. Note that these happens subconsciously.
I think you missed the point entirely. This isn't about UFC rules and there was no UFC in the 80s, just a lot of misconceptions about martial arts, as TS mentioned.

And? Has he tested his shit? Against who? Where and when? How many times? And what was the level of his opposition?
Sparring and fighting with your dojomates is very much different than clashing with a stranger for benefits (aka combat sports/ prizefighting). You wouldn't know if the opponent will go to great lengths harming you just to gain the benefits.
Except not once has anyone won a fight using chi or invisible powers or mind control or kung fuAndy Hug bless!!!
Karate sucks!!
GSP Kyokushin bless!!!
Karate sucks!!
Dellagrotte karate baby!!!
Karate sucks!!!
Machida era motherfuckah!!
ETC., Etc., etc....
Every art gets lumped into the shit pile at some point or another, multiple times. The misconceptions are still there; old traded for new, which were old once before and will be new yet again.
There’s nothing to see. There was never a single piece of footage of him in a legitimate competition. Not even real sparring.Ahhhh we have a bruce lee hater among us...haha....listen to what many have said about him...listen to what jim kelley said about him...how he was a freak of nature and nobody could touch him...but I'm not going to debate how great he was...cause the haters can never be made to see...
Right on, except they can implement these as well + whoop ass professionally using the remainder of the techniques , while an average dude won't throw a punch properly.
Shamrock by heelhook.Checking my thread history, clearly it isn't possible. Feel free to bump all of them I've made in the last year to prove your point.
Get back at me, and stop hijacking the TS.
Not all karate styles were McDojo'd. There were always hardcore styles, but they weren't as popular as the others.
