Islam appears to be peaking now, but I don't see how beating a smaller guy (who came off the couch) makes him #1 P4P
Moving
up in weight is supposed to give P4P status, not beating smaller guys who move up in weight to fight you, especially on short notice.
If Islam moves up, and beats Leon Edwards,
then yeah, he he will rightfully deserve the #1 spot.
But right now, he does not.
Quite frankly, if Alex Pereira beats Jiri Procházka this weekend, then Alex Pereira should be the #1 P4P fighter, as a titleholder in 2 divisions.
Pereira would have decimated Israel Adesanya — something no other middleweight had done up to that point — he just be the former LHW titleholder and blah Błachowicz — and if he wins the they can LHW Championship, then not only should he be #1 P4P, but arguably Fighter of the Year, for winning two Championship belts, in two divisions, all within one year.
