Islam has gassed before. Is he gonna bulk up for WW?

Not me, but this group of weirdos has put together a list of Makhachev lies, from weighing 200lbs, never made the Lw limit, only fights in Abu Dhabi, No top 10 wins, Uses IV’s, Shoulnt be in the UFC because he jumpe Mcgregor.
You forgot gay.

He doesn't need to bulk up to fight someone as one-dimensional as JDM.

Islam clearly gassed in the last round of the 1st Volkanovski fight. He managed to finish Dustin in the 5th but I think he spent more time on top control and less scrambling.

How risky is it for him to try to put on more mass? Should he even do it? He weighed in 177 in a fight night at 155 so he probably walks around 185-190. Should he really try to get bigger? Or should he just cut from like that 185-190 range and have an easier cut? Maybe even just 180 so you don't risk it.

It is interesting because if you're gonna fight JDM one would think you want to put on mass because you are gonna employ a grappling heavy plan but on the other time he has a history of gassing. Also when Burns gassed JDM took him out in no time so who knows...

Should he really put on more mass? I trust the team to make the right decision and it is if course more based on his body than a specific opponent but they could make a mistake, they're not perfect.
He could look huge and gas on the 4th round or he could look the same and not be strong enough.

My take is to don't even try to bulk up, diet a bit but less than at 155 and start the cut at like 180-182. Keep it somewhat familiar in cage weight so you don't carry to much around but you cut half the weight.
What do the sherscientists say? UberIslam or EconoIslam? Or should he pull a Jones and just be fat?
He more than likely will not.. he still has to cut weight for ww... He just won't need to use an IV bag or be as depleted

The question is does Islam slow down because of the weight cut or not. We will see. He also brawled with Volk and Dustin. He took a whooping vs both but still won

I compete at 145 . I’m 5”9 and walk around at 170 ish

I recently took a super fight at 170 just because it paid and it’s just bjj.

I was surprised how exhausted I got just moving around the bigger guy and it took the whole 20 mins for me to actually figure out HOW to move without tiring myself out.

But I think had I been a little bigger it would have been much easier and not take too much out of my cardio.

I may try again in 3 months when I’m more built into the larger frame

Islam gassed because he is not used to someone resisting his grappling as effectively as Volk did. Craig Jones taught him how to neutralize it and so Islam expended way more energy than he is used to. Most people just wilt under his grappling pressure because they don't have the technique and grit to survive the storm. Volk had both.

Make biggest issue is he won't have the big strength advantage he usually has . He won't bulk up he was already a big lw. He would only bulk up if he went MW imo
I dont think Islam is all that strong compared to someone like Khabib. People who have fought both have mentioned it plenty. e.g Dustin's Switch failed against Khabib while Khabib was quick and more technical than Islam to counter it you could also feel Khabib was strong. While Islam got Ragdolled by Dustin's switch. There is a technical gap in Islam on controlling opponents but I also feel there is a strength gap aswell

Islam is a mouth breather so it looks like he has gassed badly

????
He rehydrated to 177 in 24 hours in his last fight. It takes 4-5 for the body to recover from a weight cut. That's a man that walks around over 200 pounds.

He's finally fighting people his own size. Which is interesting because now we to see if his seemingly ungodly strength translates to WW.

In theory he should be cutting less weight at 170 pounds regardless of bulking up a bit.

Yeah, its basically not possible for him to put 15lbs of muscle on his frame between now and then, maybe if he lifts a bit more and gets to eat more he will put on 5lbs of muscle tops. He already comes into the cage close to 180lbs fighting at 155 and he stays pretty peeled year round. I think he walks around 185-190, he will be a medium sized WW, bigger than your Colbys and Burns but noticeably smaller than a Morales or Shavkat.

Moving up is a huge mistake from Islam imo. A near-retirement DP was stuffing his takedowns after the second round, and JDM has elite TDD/scrambles.
luckily for islam hes a well rounded figher
hes gonna use that TD threat as a weapon

Him not having to kill himself to make 155 will help his gas tank, not harm it. He's not Conor McGregor fighting 15 lbs outside of his natural weight class (155), he will just not have to cut as much and actually be properly field at 170.
