Is Umar Nurmagomedov regressing?

The real question is how salty is the Dawg that one of the GOAT's students and disciples is going to take yet another world tite?

Best coach and fighter that ever lived.

What a time to be alive.

- Second fight in 3 months
- Fought Fig who came in overweight
- Fig gave Yan a tougher fight and even dropped Yan

Thread title is sheer stupidity.
How is the guy regressing? He DOMINATED a tough opponent.

Fig was keeping his distance from Umar, to avoid the kicks, and was running the entire time. Fig's only hope in this fight was to have Umar barge in and for Fig to clip him with a counter. Fig wasn't gonna outstrike Umar nor take him down.

Umar played it safe and there was a near 0% chance he would've even gotten a title shot even if he finished Fig, otherwise he wouldn't be on the prelims.

It's funny how no one is criticizing O'Malley who landed fewer strikes than Umar but everyone is giving hell to Umar for not finishing Fig, who by the way hasn't been finished in 5 years.
Agree
Yes the fight was boring, but the reason was Figgy.
The criticism is coming from either O'Malley fans or people who hate the Dagi's.

Umar should get the next shot. Him vs Yan is a truly great fight and much more interesting than Yan v O'Malley 2.

O'Malley hasn't really gotten better in the last couple years.
Yan has improved quite a bit.

Yan won the first fight, although it was close. He's going to smash O'Malley in the second fight IMO. He should be well over -200.
I think Yan - Umar, neither will be better than -150. Great scrap.
We need to see Yan - Umar before Yan ages out of his prime.

Just curious about what everyone thought about Umars fight at 324 against Figgy.

Since his incredible fight with merab, I think that a lot of people have had very high hopes for Umar, Citing He'd be a future champion. I was inclined to agree.

Since that fight he has fought twice. If you ask me, He looked worse against bautista than he did against Merab. He won, and he looked good, But he was incredibly gassed giving his post fight speech. I thought he might have been sick or something, I didn't think too much of it.

then for one reason or another, It seemed he got a step down with the Figgy match up and I really was not impressed at all, I think most agree that he wasn't going to earn a title shot with that performance, and if he showed up like that to merab or yan he'd probably get smoked.

what happened? He showed great promise. but seems to look worse over his last 2 fights. Does he just fight to the level of his competition and sandbag unless he's being pushed? does the Umar we saw at UFC 324 beat O'malley?
I hope He is sandbagging. Displaying just enough to win but keeping a few tricks up the sleeve for title shot. Islam sure seemed like he sandbagged for a while then just started going all out

Just another boring neck beard. -1500 favourite against a washed up flyweight and has to grind his way to a decision. These mountain men will be the downfall of the UFC in America.

The proper reaction to a running opponent is to put your hand on your face and stuck your other arm through that arm and wave it around, and do funny dance aerobics moves to clown them.

It was a boring fight, but lots of great champions had stinkers. Nothing happened to him at all.

Nurmagomedov's reign ended with Khabib. They passed the torch to Islam. And I'm not interested anything below LW manlet divisions

He fought 2 dudes that were stalling and not fighting at all, difficult to look good against those guys when they refuse to fight. And if you're comfortably winning, why would u open yourself up and risk getting exposed?

Umar fought safe and conservative, and only to his opponent’s level. Zero pop in his punches. Now that he’s in contention, he’s surely getting coached by the other neckbeards to not take risks and try to finish fights. Sean ain’t fighting him, and frankly, I don’t blame Sean for that. Everything about Umar is boring.

Yeah, I don't care if it makes me a casual - his style is boring as fuck and he's likely not getting another title shot as long as there are other options. Nobody wants him as champ.

I don't think he is regressing. I think the UFC trying to give him some wins so it can look legitimate him being in a title picture. Same with O'Malley, hence why Suga/Umar wasn't made for UFC 324.

Umar is pretty good, but he doesn't finish ppl & that's why some don't believe he is as good as advertised. His wrestling & grappling is top tier & his stand up isn't bad either. Dude goes for a more tactical approach rather than looking for the finish. Many think the safe approach means someone is lesser of an opponent when compared to the rock em sock em fighter.

In all honesty Umar is a top dawg at '35 like it or not. He easily beats everyone in that division but Yan, Merab & possibly Suga. It can be argued that Umar easily beats Suga tho.

{<shrug}

Umar vs Suga next is what SHOULD happen while Yan/Merab happens. Just my opinion tho.

Hard to look good against someone who doesn’t want to fight, it was like Umar was chasing his dog that got out of the yard. I like Figgy but he didn’t exactly do his part to make that fight entertaining.

I don’t think it was a bad performance. Umar isn’t required to fight to the crowd’s taste. But the crowd is free to react however they want. And here’s the thing - Umar had all the advantages. Figuireido had good reason to be afraid of him. Umar doesn’t really have a good reason to fight scared against that type of opponent. He could have dog walked Figuieredo and made a statement, he just didn’t want to put himself at risk. It is what it is.

But a potential title shot was on the line, there was a lot of incentive to show out with a good performance.
