Is Umar Nurmagomedov regressing?

I'm not "retorting" just relaying what he said himself.

It’s easy for people to overanalyze things from behind their keyboards.

A fight is a fight -> it’s hard to go up against someone who’s just standing there.

He’s not interested in risking himself just to show off, he knows his own skills.

I'd wager, he’s also not willing to jeopardize his position in the rankings for the sake of putting on a display for fans. Khabib would probably beat his ass lol

So just fights to his opponents level then, If his opponent isn't going to push he's not going to push either.

Nothing screams the next title contender like being rushed out of the cage so they could honor Cruz and Travis Barker....

Umar?

Is Travis Barker the official drummer of the UFC?

The pacing was atrocious. They lost 3 of the 9 fights on the prelims, so there were only 6 fights for 3 hours. So they slow played the early fights to the point that we had like 3 fights in the first 1 hour and 40 minutes of ads, because all 3 of those first fights were 1st round finishes.

But then they delayed the last two prelim fights too much and they were both decisions. And then they did almost 30 minutes of promos to start the main card before we got an actual fight.

Damn. I assumed they'd just start the event 90 minutes later instead of trying to fill all that dead time. The pacing has always been one of my biggest issues with ufc events. I'm glad I've started sleeping early and watching the fights when I wake up.

It's his choice to fight according to his gameplan or his teams gameplan.

If you don't like it, type more. 🤭

Umar fought safe and conservative, and only to his opponent’s level. Zero pop in his punches. Now that he’s in contention, he’s surely getting coached by the other neckbeards to not take risks and try to finish fights. Sean ain’t fighting him, and frankly, I don’t blame Sean for that. Everything about Umar is boring.

Now that he's in title contention they're going to coach him to not take risks?

Brother, he was LNPing for dear life back when he was fighting unranked fighters like Bezkat or whatever. He's been like this forever lol.

it's a fair strategy. I always say jones does the same thing.

you should lay off the tweets though, makes it hard to have a real conversation when you can only regurgitate things.

People forgot his fight against nate maness....and i don't blame them lol

Was Umar LNPing this fight?

The criticism about Umar's performance makes zero sense to me.

Figgy ran away from him pretty well the entire fight save for the last 30 second of round 2.

People really have no idea how hard it is to finish someone who's running way from you. Jake Paul lasted 6 rounds against Anthony Joshua doing this FFS.

If you expect Umar to just charge face first into him and bang with him you need to temper your expectations.

If Umar is so good he should have been able to cut Figgy off and force the fight on him while still being technical and safe. Good fighters do that easily lol.

Umar is good enough to do that. He chose not to even try any of that.

I thought he would steamroll figgy
I was wrong

If a dude is always running
You should take the center of the octagon
And if opponent won’t engage then he should get carded or a point taken from the ref

This one? When he got the chance he did outside of a postured up flurry towards the very end of a round. Dude could have done way more on the ground.

Lmao this is insane. Get some glasses.

Umar was very active on top, both with guard passing and punches. Might not have been the most thrilling fight but it was far more a snoozefest either.

Devieson deserves 100% of the blame for this fight.

- Second fight in 3 months
- Fought Fig who came in overweight
- Fig gave Yan a tougher fight and even dropped Yan

Thread title is sheer stupidity.
How is the guy regressing? He DOMINATED a tough opponent.

Fig was keeping his distance from Umar, to avoid the kicks, and was running the entire time. Fig's only hope in this fight was to have Umar barge in and for Fig to clip him with a counter. Fig wasn't gonna outstrike Umar nor take him down.

Umar played it safe and there was a near 0% chance he would've even gotten a title shot even if he finished Fig, otherwise he wouldn't be on the prelims.

It's funny how no one is criticizing O'Malley who landed fewer strikes than Umar but everyone is giving hell to Umar for not finishing Fig, who by the way hasn't been finished in 5 years.

I think Umar deserves the criticism. He fought conservatively and didn't really try to finish the fight. Just like Khamzat against DDP, he showed zero urgency and took zero risks. Sure Figgy was backing up a lot, but Umar could have taken risks instead of take the safe win.

Sorry but if you can't finish a gassed, obviously out of shape Figgy @ 135 pounds, you don't deserve to call yourself the best featherweight on the planet. I'm all for Umar being denied a title shot based on that trash performance.
