Is Pereira actually a good guy?

Seems like a warm and loving person. Always nice to Nina who everyone trashes. Very Christ-like imho

Second or third that sentment. I don't give a hot fart about the personal life of any athlete or entertainer. Never followed any of these people on social media and never will. It's really weird that celeb idolatry is still a thing. After the 2010 screen in face personal transparency culture killed all the mystique of the industry, I don't see what the draw is anymore. Oh, you're just a regular person....welp, see ya on game day!

You must be one of those toxic, unbearable, cancerous fans of Russian, Muslim, Caucasian MMA fighters who constantly attack, defame, and persecute Brazilian MMA fighters.

What's the problem? Do you want to defame and demonize Alex Pereira? He's not perfect, a saint; he has flaws like any human being, but he's never hurt anyone, he helps many people, does charity work, and has social projects.
I am Polish. Accusing me of being fan of Russian or Muslim is basically like talking to Jew, that he is pro-Hitler.
But your joke about him never hurting anyone is actually pretty funny

A role model should be someone you actually know. Watching some guy on tv for a few minutes that you have zero personal connection doesn't make that person a role model.
A role model can be anyone, even a fictional character. You are looking at someone who has qualities you desire, and you mimic them. Good luck finding a great role model whom you have a real personal connection with.

In sparring footage it looks like it is always him turning it on in intensity and comments end up making excuses for it.

We shouldn't put people on pedestals. Fighters, actors, influencers, whoever.

all of these guys are assholes and would KO you if you ever said shit to them

go to your local MMA gym and train. witness the personalities and the hubris. then amplify that by 1000 for anyone in the UFC. amplify that by another mil for a champ.

Exactly lol. And sure, there are exceptions. If TS needs to tell himself Alex is one of them to like him more, go for it.

Question: can you avoid 1 vs 1 sparring altoghether? You can still use mitts with your coaches and turstworthy partners, right?

I think he is a great respectful person. Chama.

I love the way Pereira fights, he is extremely exciting in the ring, he is actually epithomy what a fighter should be - active, enganging, fighting often, not backing from challenges. A great, all time great fighter.
I like his demeanour, he got this cold aura, charisma, vibe.
But everything what I read about his charachter, his behaviour is that he is actually shabby and he just get free pass, because he doesn't speak english, so nobody knows it. He says rude things about other fighters, he is ill-natured in sparrings.
I mean - guys from Brasil should speak for it better, how is he perceived there?

He's clearly a sociopath POS on the level of Jon Jones if not more for anything who has watched his behaviour. But hey he knocks out people in fights so we'll keep watching

I sincerely believe around 40% of the fanbase look to their favorite fighters to help them identify their own masculinity and value systems, so they hate finding out their heros are quitters, or assholes, or whatever the case may be.

Once you've seen it enough, you can intentionally lay this type of naive idolatry aside imo, but it kinda requires getting burned a few times first.

My $.02
Man…this is sports marketing in a nutshell. Oftentimes the real person has nothing in common the model being portrayed.

Michael Jordan became the biggest athlete in the world by a very long mile thanks to his sponsors pushing this “good guy” image. Then everyone was surprised by his hall of fame speech that seemed petty and vindictive. Same reaction when the Netflix documentary dropped. But that was the real MJ…a ferocious competitor ready to make imaginary enemies out of anyone and bully his teammates to win. Nothing wrong with being that way but man, average people and kids were being so misled.

Athletes’ performances are inspiring but it should be open book in terms of the personality it takes to win at the top levels. Nice guys often don’t win.

Same can be said with actors, politicians, musicians, etc. I think at some point, past 20 years old, the onus is on the fan to realize what is fact and fiction. Work hard to be proud of yourself, rather idolizing others. Of course, it’s much harder to do…

Hard to say. In my view, if Glover Teixeira considers him a good person, then he probably is.

But it’s definitely not a unanimous opinion. He has a long history of falling out with former teammates and coaches. He split on bad terms with Wera Belocqua, his mentor and the guy who originally ‘discovered’ him. Later he had issues with coach Vinicius ‘Reviravolta’ during the peak of his Glory run. More recently, he had a public disagreement with Lee Alves.

He also clashed with Wallid Ismail, the Jungle Fight promoter—though in that case he was likely in the right, since Wallid has a reputation for being… let’s say, less than honorable.

Every woman he’s dated seems to walk away resentful. He comes across as someone with very thin skin; even constructive criticism sets him off. He’s had problems with multiple Brazilian content creators and journalists, not to mention other fighters. Walter Walker recently hinted that he’s an asshole in person, despite looking like a nice guy online—he didn’t mention Alex by name, but if he had, Alex probably would’ve reacted the same way he did with others like Esquiva Falcão or Vinicius Lockdog.

Cosmo Alexandre has also told a story from the gym: he once tried to show Alex how to make his kicks more efficient, Poatan didn’t take it well, and basically challenged him to demonstrate it during sparring.

So yeah… opinions on him vary a lot. <nonemybusiness>
Thanks for sharing details from behind the scenes. I’m scared to imagine what a Wallid-Pereira beef would look like 😱

What's wrong with looking up to people and searching for role models? It's normal human behaviour, you're being too cynical I feel
Nothing wrong with it per se, but you have to look in the right places. Curated public figures at literally some of the worst and most fake human beings on earth. And I this having seen many up close, from business to sports to politics. So if you’re looking online or in the media for role models…you’re doomed.

Better look in real life, closer to home. Coaches, teachers, good parents, etc. There is always someone, even in bad environments. Those are the REAL valuable human beings, whom you can actually see in truth daily.

Athletes are great to emulate in the sport itself. Nothing wrong with looking up to how Pereira fights if you are coming up in MMA, for example.

Fictional is actually a good idea, like someone from a book. It gives a standard to aim for, it never changes and can never disappoint. I suppose that’s what many religious writings try to do (provide a model), but there is also plenty to choose from in fictional writing.

Poatan’s always super chill and helpful with fans, reporters, pretty much anyone who comes up to him. He’s not the type to trash-talk other fighters, but if someone pushes him, he’ll fire right back.

On top of taking care of his kids, his parents, and his siblings, Poatan started a charity that helps underprivileged kids, giving them quality education and access to sports.

There’s really nothing bad you can say about the guy.

Never ceases to amaze me how much people are surprised by guys that get paid to beat the shit out of each other might not be all bubbles and unicorns in their personal lives.

This is actual fangirl shit.
