Is Pereira actually a good guy?

You forgot Volkanovski and Whittaker.
Good calls, man

I remember guys like Josh Grispi, and always default to the position "who tf even knows" when it comes to the hero worship fighters are capable of attaining

I sincerely believe around 40% of the fanbase look to their favorite fighters to help them identify their own masculinity and value systems, so they hate finding out their heros are quitters, or assholes, or whatever the case may be.

Once you've seen it enough, you can intentionally lay this type of naive idolatry aside imo, but it kinda requires getting burned a few times first.

You know what? I grew up watching pro wrestling, and this is how people choose who to root for in wwf and whatever. I had abandoned it before I even stumbled into MMA. I don't cheer for people because they are "like me" or because I can relate.

The irony is, so many fans claim they hate the "WWE" influence on the sport, but they way they worship and idolize fighters for their "personas" is exactly the same as WWE fans. They turn their nose up at them, but really they are just like them.

I think he is solid.
Maybe not Wonderboy level nice but it wouldn't fit him demeanor if he was that nice to be honest.
He is helping in Brazil the communities from his town.
He is respectful to his opponents unless they talk shit.
Yes, the fame and money probably got to him a bit but he still is very solid imo.

The incident when he KOed the guy looks bad but we don't know the backstory. I have seen him spar multiple times and never he put a beating like that on someone not his level that I've seen. So maybe there was some heat prior or some agreement between them to go all out.
I'm sure he will talk about it someday as someone will ask him about it.

100%, its a good example of 'the lady doth protest too much' energy that mma fans somehow feel exempt from while actively epitomizing it lol

I think all hardcores eventually grow out of it but I question it from time to time

Sadly agree. People who make professionalised violence their occupation are mostly not ethically good guys.

And the whole narrative about “good” guys is sketchy too.

I’m here to be entertained by monsters beating the shit out of each other, cranking limbs etc.

No need to project on a canvas that’s quite simple.

It’s fun talking about (and talking shit about) the personalities and personal lives of these fighters because that’s part of what gets us invested in athletes, the human element.

But really I don’t expect any of these guys who hurt people for a living to be decent human beings and that’s okay because ultimately what matters is whether they can fight. Their job has no requirement for them to be decent human beings.

Is Perreira a good guy? Who cares, do you plan on being his friend or something?

Absolutely agree with this.

As long as you're not actively starting shit, not kicking puppies or pressing people that can't defend themselves in regular life, in line at the store or anything, that's more or less all I ask for lol

When you get to the Joe Son/War Machine/Lloyd Irvin types, it's clear as day that they're creeps and predators and we collectively wash our hands of them

Absolutely. A lot of people seem to project their sense of social justice onto MMA and it’s really weird.

Dude is a human cockfigting whos style is knocking people out while being locked out in a cage semi nude with another semi nude guy.

He is also active and fights all the time whoever they put in front of him.

I could not care less about him being a nice guy or not.

As long as he is not cherry picking fights, running pregnant woman with his car, raping women in Ireland or holding a belt without defending.. then I'm good.

Hard to say. In my view, if Glover Teixeira considers him a good person, then he probably is.

But it’s definitely not a unanimous opinion. He has a long history of falling out with former teammates and coaches. He split on bad terms with Wera Belocqua, his mentor and the guy who originally ‘discovered’ him. Later he had issues with coach Vinicius ‘Reviravolta’ during the peak of his Glory run. More recently, he had a public disagreement with Lee Alves.

He also clashed with Wallid Ismail, the Jungle Fight promoter—though in that case he was likely in the right, since Wallid has a reputation for being… let’s say, less than honorable.

Every woman he’s dated seems to walk away resentful. He comes across as someone with very thin skin; even constructive criticism sets him off. He’s had problems with multiple Brazilian content creators and journalists, not to mention other fighters. Walter Walker recently hinted that he’s an asshole in person, despite looking like a nice guy online—he didn’t mention Alex by name, but if he had, Alex probably would’ve reacted the same way he did with others like Esquiva Falcão or Vinicius Lockdog.

Cosmo Alexandre has also told a story from the gym: he once tried to show Alex how to make his kicks more efficient, Poatan didn’t take it well, and basically challenged him to demonstrate it during sparring.

So yeah… opinions on him vary a lot. <nonemybusiness>

I love the way Pereira fights, he is extremely exciting in the ring, he is actually epithomy what a fighter should be - active, enganging, fighting often, not backing from challenges. A great, all time great fighter.
I like his demeanour, he got this cold aura, charisma, vibe.
But everything what I read about his charachter, his behaviour is that he is actually shabby and he just get free pass, because he doesn't speak english, so nobody knows it. He says rude things about other fighters, he is ill-natured in sparrings.
I mean - guys from Brasil should speak for it better, how is he perceived there?
his post-fight celebration is disrespectful of the opponent, that should speak volumes.

the only thing that is known about his private life is he loves anal sex and some of his female fans got a surprise.

He may not be and that would not surprise me. It really doesn't matter. Many are douche bags outside of their profession and sometimes within their profession. We love hearing about those who can perform at a high level in a violent sport and yet be nice outside of it to the point that you would not think they are capable of violence.

Let's say he is.... as you imply.... a horrible person..

Then... how is keeping his mouth shut not the best possible move?

Maybe motherfuckers should take notes.

I got zero problem with a knockout artist who does his talking with his fists and doesn't run his mouth outside the cage.

That is so far on the bottom of any list of shit to complain about

He is a great human being, I don't know whos this is a question, he always show class everytime he can.

Feuding with other fighters like Ankalaev or Jamahal doesn't make him a bad person or anything, it's the nature of the sport.

What's wrong with looking up to people and searching for role models? It's normal human behaviour, you're being too cynical I feel

Nah, but who cares. Pretty fucking overrated UFC reign though.
