Is Michael Bisping the worst middleweight champion / worst fighter to win a belt?

Prime vs Prime. he losses to silva, whittaker, romero, israel, weidman, mousasi, jacare, rockhold, hendo, vitor, machida,

Oh cool. Another fantasy "prime vs prime" thread.

You hardly ever see these on sherdog.

I noticed several people mentioned Dave Menne here. Granted, he didn't accomplish much in the UFC, but I think he's far from the worst champion the UFC has ever had, nor is he the worst MW champion.

For starters, the guy had a whopping 60+ fights by the end of his career, and he was 30-7-2 going into his first UFC title fight. He came from an era when one night tournaments were very common, and he racked up an insane amount of fights every year. In 1999, he fought an outrageous 15 times alone!!!

So, to say he was the worst champion in UFC history is unfair. It seems to me like he was just a guy from a different era.

Keep beating this dead horse. We, the citizens of Sherdoggia, haven't our fill.

Lol not even close.

Stop thinking your most disliked fighters are shit. Every Bisping fight on Sherdog this place said how terrible he was and was going to lose.

Rockhold was going to destroy him again the second time, Dan Henderson was going to H-Bomb him again, Anderson Silva was going in to the matrix, etc. That isn't the worst of it though, they're all elite fighters he beat. Even the likes of Mayhem Miller, Cung Le, Alan Belcher, etc. were all expected to smash Bisping if you listen to Sherbros that can't separate the fighters they like/hate from how good they are.

Think you gotta go back to Jorge Rivera where there were hardly any of these posts. The guys been retired for like 4 and a half years and he still lives so rent free in your heads these posts exist.

Win against Rockhold was a fluke and Luke has lost 3 out of his last 4. Dan Henderson was washed up and old at 46. Silva should've won the fight but Herb Dean was too inept to stop the fight. Bisping sucks.

This thread reflects poorly on you and your loved ones.

I really like Bisping but he was not championship level. Hendo beat his ass both times they fought. that was a terrible decision.

Credit to him though he was the champion and found ways to win a lot of fights he was outmatched in

right place at the right time. weidman was injured and rockhold got cocky/arrogant.
Well yes, Bisping's fists did meet Rockhold's jaw at the right place and time.

Loses to Rockhold prime vs. prime?

He knocked hands down, ego propped chin up Rockhold out in the first.

You invalidated your own thread.

Oh and he did it with one fucking eye!!!

BUDDEH!

Let me start with this disclaimer: This is MMA, where anything can happen.

Now, while you are right that he beat Luke, let us not be so blind as to forget that the first time they fought, where BOTH had full camp, Luke beat Bisping everywhere.

Now He was the champ, and Bisping was an undeserving guy filling up without a training camp. Luke was over-confident and paid the price.

But that hardly proves Bisping was the better fighter.
Their first fight proved it. This one was just pure luck for Bisping.

If you were to piece together the perfect MMA fighter, it would have to include Michael Bispings heart and determination

there is no surrender in this fella

Most of those named were PEDs/TRTs users and he already has victories over some of them.
Bisping is a legend of the sport and deserved his title as much as anybody else. We can talk about his reign, but that's another story (even than, he defended unlike McGregor, so there you go)

You'll probably find your answer in one of the first champions

I don't know who the worst fighter to ever win a belt is. Brock Lesnar, perhaps?

The worst middleweight champ ever is Chris Weidman. He got his title shot by beating Mark Munoz (respectable, but on the decline) and Demian Maia in a boring fight that Joe Rogan trashed him over. Seriously, listen to Joe's commentary in that fight; he vicious against both Weidman and Maia.

As champion, Weidman beat three Brazilian fighters who were all in their late thirties and had significant mileage on them by that point. Both of his wins over Anderson were weird, he barely got through Machida in an absolute war, and the version of Vitor he fought was dad-bod Vitor who had just come off of TRT. Rockhold was the first guy he fought that was his age, his size, and on the rise in the division, and Weidman got wrekt.

What has since followed has been a strange and somewhat sad career of him finding odd new ways to get finished in fights. Even though I hope he recovers well from his injury, his career in hindsight is nowhere near what many expected it would be after his first fight with Silva, and if Weidman were to retire today, I think Bisping's career as a whole would look much better in comparison.
you're mentally ill if you think weidman is the worst mw champ. hes the 2nd best at worst

So yeah clearly an attempt to disparage bispings achievements. Bisping is the most winningest fighter in ufc middleweight history, never backed down from anyone and won the belt on two weeks notice. Great fighter and great story of someone who never gave up when he could of easily done so.
Winningset is basically that he fought a long time against fringe fighters

Yes, pretty clearly. A mix of the following has changed the narrative for him:
-his commentating makes him more known to newer fans and he has been smart about subtly hyping up his own career while he commentates, which has tricked newer fans into thinking he was a better fighter than he was
-British fans continue to overrate him because they’ve produced so few good MMA fighters
-People thinking Rockhold is annoying and becoming a fan of Bisping for cutting him down to size
