Is it time to slide Charles Oliveira over Tony Ferguson in All-Time Lightweights

I hope TS didn't hop in his truck for a drive after making this thread...

Yes, Tony is my boy and eventhough his achievements will still hold up in the future, Charles surpassed him.

He's been ahead of Tony just simply based on having been a true title holder and having defended. Tony had "champ in waiting belt" that was never defended and stripped bc he tripped over a cable. Charles is way beyond Tony.

Prime Tony is so overrated. He was an insanely entertaining fighter, but not an all-timer when it comes to his resume. Why is this even a debate?

Tony is a poor man's Charles. An overachiever by my eyes, but obviously a tough and talented fighter with many amazing wins.

Big gap between them in terms of LW legacy talk imo.

With his dominant win over Dariush (unbeaten 5 years), Oliveria is now back in title contention. He has a storied career just like Tony Ferguson had, a title reign where he defended the strap more times than Islam has (against Dana favorites Dustin & Justin), and all the records to back it up.

1. Khabib 2. BJ Penn 3. Frankie Edgar 4. Charles Oliveria?

Yeah, I think once you put a string of 4-5 good wins together, beat some title contenders and actually win the belt, you should be ranked above successful non-belt holders, even with long win streaks. If you defend your belt, that puts you even further above the others.

Tony had a longer streaks with less names, lost when he was older. Olivera has a shorter streak with the top of the division besides Islam. There is some sort of debate here, but Olivera proved himself with his title run. Basically cleared the top 5.
Tony had a 12 fight win streak
Do Bronx had an 11 fight win streak

Tony’s streak was solid, but only ended in a Interim
Do Bronx had the title

Tony has 25 wins with 20 finishes
Do Bronx has 34 wins, 31 finishes

Do Bronx likely has another 10 -15 fights left.. Tony maybe has 2 more fights at most.

LOL at BJ and Frankie there

Khabib
Oliveira
Henderson/Alvarez/Pettis

BabyJay and pointfighting Edgar.

Tony never won a title so it's not even up for debate. Having said that, I think Tony could've won title some time between BJ and Khabib when it went from Frankie to Bendo to Pettis to RDA to Eddie Alzarez to Conor. He actually beat two of those guys after they held the title (Pettis and RDA right after he lost it). The funny thing is Michael Johnson beat both Tony and Poirier and may have prevented both from getting a title shot before Khabib became champ.

gnarles is amazing, but people acting like he is LW goat or is set in stone to best RDA i dont agree with. his wins alone dont erase his losses and how he matches up against some of the other champions shouldnt be skewed.

looking at his win streak i can see rda besting the exact same opponents.

The bigger question may be where does Oliveria and Islam rank if Islam decisively beats him again.

Huge T-Ferg fan, but Oli has been above him in terms of legacy for quite a bit of time IMO.

This. Ferguson was a beast no doubt but RDA is really his only elite level win. He beat Pettis and Cerrone win they were already well into their decline.

He's multi defense former champion. Your question shouldn't even be a question.
