is it okay to spar hard every sparring session?

Martinez only have 30+ fights as an amateur. He fought more in pro level. That's not really comparable to some other fighters who fight like 80+ amateur fights or so. And he started rather late in age 20 something too, which is not really like someone who started boxing since they are 12 or something (which is the case for many guys out there). Lastly his trainer is the same guy for the last 15 years or so (ever since he relocated to Spain) who also applied the same sparring rules with other fighters in his gym, so it is not that tailor made.

As for my case, it wasn't about me. It was more of a short general rants about how some people in here act about sparring. I'm gonna do hard sparring eventually, but let's not talk about that.

My trainer actually doesn't let me spar often when training for fights but when we do, we go hard and we do it with other fighters. I actually sparred much more often when I didn't have a fight. Now I spar once or twice a week.

I think its necessary some medium-hard sparring (not all out but like 70% or so) to test your skills.. if all you do is tai chi sparring, you will never know how to react vs real pressure from an opponent... just get some headgear and be safe..

and all this talk about martinez... hes almost 40, of course hes not gonna sparr that often, but I bet he sparred alot in his 20s to get those skills..

129 amateur fights, at your age, in 1 and a half years? What do you parents say? That's 1 fight every 4 days. 129 amateur fights is way over what most pros have.
Most coaches don't allow hard sparring leading up to a contest due to risk of injury. If ur one of those Cuban or Mexican kids, then i'll understand. But, i don't think you are since you're using a computer.

exactly!...

he's a veteran. he knows where he's at skill-wise now and he maintains what he wants and refines what he needs.

129 fights isn't even that much. My trainer had over 300, his son is 16 and has 266 fights.

I used to get headaches after heavy sparring while using a cheap headgear. after I upgraded I've never gotten a headache

Just smoke weed and take fish oil everyday. Protect that brain.

One vid doest mean you had 128 other fights! You posted that you had 129 fights two weeks ago, to maintain your average you should be up to 133 fights by now sweetheart. Or are you doing 6 fights this weekend?
Cubans, Mexicans, etc can have 200+ ammys, over 5 or 10 years.

I'm flat out calling you a lier, the numbers don't add up.

Makes you appreciate how good Payak was. He did 4 years, this clown lasted two weeks!

If you look at my other posts I stated that I'm moving gyms.

Also, there's not any fights in December.

I'm sorry if you guys don't believe me, it's totally natural and fine. I can't make you believe me, there's nothing I could do.

It just to him the numbers did not really add up. Now i know that amateur that started from early ages do A LOT of matches (Shit, Floyd have +100 amateur fights) so i will cut you some slack for that. But let's not derail the thread here.

EDIT: as for Martinez, look it up on youtube for episode 2 of HBO 24/7 Martinez vs JCC Jr. There's a specific part about the 60 rounds sparring i talked about, along with clarification that it isn't because of Martinez's age. Also, there's one or two interview around of his trainer Pablo Sarmiento mentioned about how little the sparring in his gym is compare to other gyms as he prefers to have his guys "hungry"

Now I believe you even less!!! If there's no fights in December -8 weeks, -8 weeks to get your first fight, it's the second week in January so another 2 weeks.

That means you've had 129 fights in 60 weeks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Plus you'd still need to squeeze another 9 fights in somewhere.

You make Travis Fulton look like a pussy, I'll be he wasn't Fighting twice a week at 14.

Also, if your fighting ever 3 days when do you get chance to do this heavy sparring? I guess you don't spar the day before and the day after so that only leaves 1 day in between fights?

there's not much (if any)difference between a guy with 30 fights and a guy with 80.

On an extreme note , my coach fought a guy who had 350 fights , US champ , had just beaten Meldrick Taylor in his last competition ....when he had just 9 fights , the 8th and 9th being in that same tournament.
He lost a split decision .

Maybe. Maybe not.

Well like I said, there's nothing I could do.

Every gym is different, I've had people join the gym with 30 fights and 5 years in the business

I say a year and a half in the ammys but in reality it's a more. I just rounded it off to a year and a half to avoid saying, a year and 8 months. it's just easier to say a year and a half. I didn't know I was going to get bashed on my record. on the contrary, I should get more appreciation on it. I go to the gym and train hard everyday, I dedicate myself to the sport and give it my all. Just because numbers didn't add up don't mean I'm fake. You guys really escalated this to something it shouldn't have gone too. I know that I'm good at what I do and I know the amount of fights I have, I could care less if you don't believe it.

The difference that you said earlier between 30 bouts vs 80 bouts. It depends and varies but i do think that the more the experience, the more the boxer is better prepared for pro. But that's just me.

I'm not talking as in preparing for the pro game.
I'm mean if u put in two guys , one with 30 and one with 80 fights or two guys one with 100 and the other with 200 fights , the difference (if any) between them isn't as big as you'd think.
On the flip side , there's a big difference between a guy with 5 fights and a guy with 30......usually.

Just seen a new addition to urban dictionary:

'Payanoia' - the fear that a forum user posting suspicious content may be Payak.
