Is Canadian MMA completely dead?!

Canada is in a bad place. Globalists are circling like vultures while their far left federal government is leaving opportunity wide open for attack.

They have to work more because of living costs, insane taxes, and a whole lot of tax money going into international black holes that have nothing to do with bettering the lives of their people.

MMA, music, art, education, entertainment, and just about any idea of having time for a hobby is a crumbling dream.

Canada is a great place and I hope they wake up before that WEF plant Carney gets handed the keys to it, unelected.

Canada is full of people who voted for
that fuckin twerp Trudeau so I'm not surprised.
(I wasn't one of them )
Joe Biden used to be US president not that long ago, so does that mean America was full of puzzies too? I hate Trudeau too, but it’s weird when people try to blame every single thing on politicians. Strickland cried and blamed his 1st loss to DDP on the Cdn government, when the judges are people who judge other UFC fights all over the place. Trudeau doesn’t even know Strickland exists

It was meant to be tongue in cheek relax.

10-15 years ago the canucks had

GSP
Rory
Kang
TJ Grant
Hominick
Mein
Bocek
Alessio
Theodoreau RIP
Hill
Cote
JMac
Stout
Jabouin
Doerkensen
OAM
Makdessi
Jimmo

That is damn good talent. First 5 were top contenders in their division and reached top 5 in their weight class. Cote fought for title. Bunch others were ranked or just solid and a tough out. An Makdessi is ancient now and just got robbed against Mullarkey last year.

Why the dropoff? There aren't any good legit canucks anymore. Olivier Aubin Mercier was looking real good then retired. Dunno others some will have a good win then shit the bad and get rekt. They had a Toronto card last year and Canadian men went 0-6 including Mike Mallot who many said was best Canadian prospect got exposed and derailed by ancient Neil Magny. There was a chick on Contenders who was a HOOGE -2500 favorite and got starched in a minute by a womanlet.

We've never seen a nation in MMA fall off a cliff talent wise like this. Any time there is a canuck on a card you have to bet their opponent./
Simply listing off names doesn't make all of these guys great talent. Yes they were in the UFC and some had a decent amount of success but the majority of these fighters were not well rounded, struggled with wrestling (as stated in my post), and were nowhere near the talent of the American fighters over that same span besides obviously GSP.

As stated in my post, the drop off is most likely the result of the UFC banning sponsors which takes away a massive part of the potential income of fighters. This makes MMA a far less attractive career opportunity for someone in a first world country where cost of living has skyrocketed in the past decade.

If you are a college wrestler from North American with a degree, why risk stable employment where you actually use your degree to pursue a career in a fickle sport where even the top guys aren't making great money?? There's a reason Gable Steveson wasn't interested in MMA....

This is not just a trend for Canadians. Out of the 11 champions in the UFC right now... only 3 are from the USA: Belal Muhammad at WW (last 3 champions were Non-Americans), Julianna "The Venezuelan Vixen" Pena, and Jon Jones who has been in the UFC for 17 years now and is one of the rare few who actually made major money in the sport.

A decade ago back in December of 2014, there were only 10 champions and 9/10 of them were from the US. That is a MUCH bigger fall from grace than Canada experienced considered there's only been 2 Canadian UFC Champions ever (and 1 was over 20 years ago).

I'm glad that the UFC is far more international now and I'm glad that many people from developing countries are getting opportunities but I am not going to pretend that this trend in the sport was organic and not linked to the UFC's embarrassingly low rate of pay.

ALL fighters, regardless of their nationality, should be making WAY more money and while there are many talented fighters around the world, I do not think we are truly seeing "the best of the best" anymore since the original Reebok deal was signed. Look at the average age of the top 10s by division compared to 10 years ago... the UFC is doing a terrible job of "restocking the shelves" now that they have such a monopoly that we're not seeing many exciting new prospects coming from anywhere.

As I said, Canada was already not a very "combat sports oriented" country and now MMA is such an unappealing career choice that those who do have skills in a relevant discipline aren't being enticed to dedicate themselves to MMA.

If you keep underpaying fighters, the talent level will drop off but sadly, fans have been conditioned to accept these watered down cards and many are unable to tell the difference between actual quality and hype. Talent as a whole is getting weaker across the sport - it's not just Canada

September 9th of every year. I make a pilgrimage to Fallsview Casino in Ontario to drink heavily, snort some cocaine and cause a scene in honour of Harold's defining win over Royce Gracie on this night in 1994, and as a nod to his final hoorah as he smashed his vehicle into the lobby of a Canadian landmark.
this year you have ta drive yer vehicle up the steps

I believe that was his fighting nickname

As much as I generally dislike the man and his worldview/politics, I'll give him mad props from strapping the gloves on and not being a complete pussy.

Difference is, Biden stole the election. Majority of Americans didn't vote him in and we didn't vote him in multiple times like Canadians voted Trudeau in multiple times

Yeah he's a massive douchebag and completely full of shit. But he did absolutely school Senator Brazeau in that charity boxing match and I'll give him his props.

I actually met Brazeau once about 15 years ago when I worked at a music venue in the Market. He was partying with two escorts, sweaty and coked out of his tree. It was a Tuesday night.

I also met Trudeau, briefly, before he was PM and he was just a famous MP, at a bar showing Mayweather-Pacquiao.

Cool. Please provide proof.

Weird that no one has ever been able to prove that claim.
I'm sorry but I can't believe the 3 letter organizations that helped fix the election when they tell me "there's nothing to see here".

Dude. There is no.proof.

You can choose to believe whatever you want. But claiming that the 2020 election was stolen is some embarrassing clown shit.

MAGA has spent years trying to prove something and have completely failed. All they have done is convince gullible people, and embarrassed themselves in court.

I remember Brazeau hadn't thought of him until this mention, he's now in that "Where are they now?" category.

Still a senator but he was kicked out of the Conservative party because he was arrested. Had substance abuse issues (can confirm) and attempted suicide.

Apparently he's sober and doing better now.

Good for him. I'm a big supporter of those who can exercise their demons; now, if I can only exercise my own.

Yeah, our neighbour and closest ally has been taken over by oligarchs and have declared a trade war on us for no reason.

Lol ok

That is the funniest fucking thing I have ever heard in my life. You are completely politically illiterate.
You think they are the only oligarchs? WEF is club of oligarchs, like upper management of Black Rock types. In Davos, Orange man bad told them that the USA belonged to the patriots, not the globalists. Since that moment the media was feeding you the evils of if he accidentally sneezed.

If you think the Canadian Federal govt is not far left, you tell me what you think since you're so politically literate.

Do you support their Liberal govt?
