Like the title says. Is the state of California badly managed or is it all just "jealousy" as I've read some Californians say about people who insults their state?

I deal with a lot of state OSHA and federal OSHA, but I've heard that Cal OSHA is significantly worse when it comes to rules and regulations of safety at the workplace. This is all just hearsay and this is just one aspect of things to complain about.

It's horribly managed...but people are still jealous of our state for reasons unrelated to the incompetent state government.

It's horribly managed. Look at the prison re-alignment, taxes vs services and other nonsense going on.

It is filled with people that are not supposed to be there. I have nothing against minorities. But think of it like this. You manage a sports venue. You somehow let in all these people that are not supposed to be able to watch the game live. Are you a poor manager? Even if you do everything else right, are you not a crappy manager for letting that happen?

Reports have shown that the government has wasted $18 billion of tax payers money since 2000.

Thats billion, with a B.

Unions and pensions will drive this state into bankruptcy.

Of course. The saving grace of california is its beautfiul land. Unfortunately, that is entirely unrelated to those that rule over it.

It has gotten worse over the years, to the point where I'll be leaving in 6 months. I honestly cannot wait to get out of California and although I'll miss a few things, I won't miss the rest.

Jerry Brown is actually the voice of sanity and reason in California govt.

That's how fucked the state is.

The politicians keep getting voted in by Californians, so there's nobody to blame, but the people.

I don't live there, but I'd say so.

yes polls would indicate that as much as 2/3 of the populace is f'ing fools.

But to be fair, in a representative system the representatives also deserve blame. The people only have the options on the ballot.

Gray Davis was supposed to be one of the smarter ones but he signed the absurd pension law as payback to the govt employee unions for supporting him.

The referendum process for even minor budgetary and taxation changes combined with the incredible burden of ludicrously high public pension and healthcare obligations have essentially doomed CA to bankruptcy with no real means to solve it (because nothing unpleasant gets through the referendum process).

It's honestly somewhat baffling how the state does so well, considering what an abomination it is. I'm sad that I have so much money wrapped up in a California home, as this bunch of fuck-ups shouldn't be trusted with anything.

There's no middle class left here either. The state now consists almost entirely of (a) an urban elite; (b) uneducated laborers; (c) public employee unions; and (d) rural yokels. All of these groups are incentivized to fuck the other groups over, and do so on a regular basis. Social cohesion is negligible at best, which, combined with our bizarre and corrupt governmental system, regularly results in completely insane political programs.

As a bright spot, there is a really high-powered urban elite driving the economy. So despite the horrible government and demographic disasters, we continue to survive.

The worst part is these dip shits that keep voting these politicians in eventually get sick of the effects of their policies and when they leave California they vote for the same shit that caused them to move.

Cycle of morons.

Yes, I live in Clark County in Las Vegas, NV and the Californian refugees that escaped their home state are changing the demographics and the politics of the entire state. We were so close to having an assault weapons ban and are fighting tooth and nail every time they introduce these California-like legislation. They don't have the numbers to sway... yet.
