Intel is the national lab for chips, Intel doesn't need the government. The government, indeed America, needs Intel.
I doubt they would run to the feds for help but I wouldn't even blink at throwing them a few billion if it would at all assist in speeding up the process of fixing these manufacturing issues.
Interesting, so they finally hit a level where defects are too common And correcting it via manufacturing changes takes too long? Wow, guess they’ve got a ceiling for their ability to produce for the meantime
No one else is having this problem? AMD NXP? well there needs to be better allocated Research and development then that or start headhuntering
Nobody else is having this problem, but TSMC and Samsung are the only other corporations in the world manufacturing 7 nanometer technology node chips, that's the thing. For perspective on how advanced that is, the industry standard is actually 28 nm (lol). Intel hasn't ever released many details about its 7 nm process but the rumor is they went too hyperaggressive with their transistor density targets, supposedly something like 250 million transistors per square millimeter.
