In what world does Khalil Rountree deserve a title shot?

thank you for making that point. its such a stupid argument that people try to make. really shows their lack of attention span, or that theyre a casual.
why dont we have Stephan Struve fight Jon Jones since he beat Stipe like 10 years ago?
You really think Rountree's resume beats Ankalaev's? And I'm the casual?

Just bleed. It's a banger. Division is void of new flesh for Poatan. Ankalev seems to not have wanted it.

He has one top 15 win his career, a late notice Anthony smith. He got dominated by Marcin mf Prachnio a few fights ago and his other best wins are two of the worst fighters at LHW, Bukauskas, Daukaus and Roberson. Even Jacoby arguably beat him.

After only beating the worst fighters in the division (and even losing to one in prachnio), he fails a doping test then immediately gets a title shot?

What are we doing here? When are we going to stop pretending the UFC is some sort of meritocracy where the best fight the best, it’s clear it’s closer to the WWE than what it once used to be.
Roundtree is fighting for the title???? Says who

I don't mind it although he would a huge underdog I will root for him

Wouldn't it be funny if Pereira didn't actually want to fight Rountree and actually wanted the Ank (or at least another one with Jan), but Dana doesnt want to book that fight for... reasons? Perhaps to cockblock Pereira from going to Heavyweight for the near future? UFC management knows that the Rountree fight does nothing for him and he will never "clear" 205 until he fights Ankalaev, who by the way after 308 might not fight until later in 2025? Wouldn't it be funny if they want Jan to jump the line and get a shot against Pereira early '25?

But what the hell do I know.

I'm not thrilled Pereira is fighting Roundtree instead of Ankalaev but im pretty sure Ank wanted a Nov/Dec fight Alex wasn't willing to wait for, especially not in Abu Dubai or UAE or wherever Ank was angling for

In all likelihood he smashes Khalil and still fights Ank before the year is over lmao

I mean, ankalaev tweeted that he’d be down to fight pereira anywhere and is fighting the same month as pereira now

since Ank got his title shot already? he has 1 win over Johnny Walker (and a no contest). Khalil beat Anthony Smith who is the last person Ank beat before he got his title shot. also beat Jacoby who is top 15.
to be honest, either of them are about the same in terms of deserving a title fight right now.
and yes, bringing up a loss from like 6+ years ago when youre talking about current rankings does make you sound like a casual.

Ignoring the fact that a draw in a title fight doesn’t and shouldn’t completely reset your trajectory, Johnny Walker is and was higher ranked than both of those guys also having a win over Khalil’s best win. There’s no reasonable way to conclude Khalil is more deserving.

it's not like it's masvidolly, coldy coldsore or strickland
(getting a shot off a decision over Costa, and a loss)

{<jimmies}

the guy has won 5 in a row.

That said, he did pop.
Ank is probably fuckin' around.

Hardly see this as "alex ducking" anything.
<RIP>
Could be biased because he murdered Jamalolol,
but truthfully don't care for ank or roundtree.

Personally want thin izzy to move up to 205 and settle this,
by getting ko'd ... with a spectacular post fight cry.

yeah, thats why i said theyre about at the same level of "deserving".
a draw doesnt reset your trajectory - it just leaves it in limbo. which is kind of where Ank is now. its a pity he couldnt be more active and really cement himself as THE next challenger.
but if he wins vs Rakic and is not next after Khalil then thats just shenanigans.

I’d say being 10-0-1 (1) in your current unbeaten streak wherein you have twice as many ranked wins all of which were ranked as high or higher than your counterpart completely negates their 5-0 streak with less ranked and lower ranked wins. I wouldn’t call that remotely the same level but that’s just me.

I kind of agree that Ank should get one more win to really cement himself as the next contender, but Khalil getting a title shot from a win over Anthony Smith is just stupid. Ank is ranked 2nd while Khalil is ranked 10th, and I dont see how a win against Smith can leapfrog him to a title fight.
