I watched a movie about this with Anthony Hopkins and Mel Gibson. I knew it was a true story of a mutiny at sea, but I was pretty surprised when they got to the little island at the end and the credits said they all lived the rest of their lives there and their descendants are still there wtf?

There was a child sex abuse scandal there a while back. The mayor of the town who got convicted is a descendant of the primary mutineer.

The thing is, in this time period, that’s just life. Maybe not the mosquitos. But everything else. Especially for common soldiers and sailors. We’re talking about the 1820’s here.

This is as good a life as this guy was likely to get. Nice beach and plenty of women. Hard life of labouring for food etc which would keep them in shape.

I don’t think shaving all body hair off was really even a thing among lower classes (99 percent of the world) during this time period so it isn’t something ole craster here would expect or even want.

The idea that these women would compete for his attention is plausible as well, although I imagine it would be low on the priority list compared to general survival.
