Crime Illegal US Border Crossings On Track For Lowest Levels In Nearly 60 Years

After years of hearing from progressists that we can‘t do anything about borders, turns out Trump solved it in a couple of weeks?

It's just a temporary bandaid. The detention centers are already full.

And you can't use the military forever for the border.

We need a Congressional bill and a lot more funding to do these deportations and for the border.

If US are like Yurrp you ll still be talking about this in 10 years and nothing will be done.

There are big differences between Europe and the US.

European immigrants usually come from countries that are not friendly or outright erase their passports so its harder to deport them, the US for the most part just needs to push them towards Mexico.

European immigrants have a harder time finding employment or outright don't want to work, while in the US most immigrants are just chasing jobs and would ultimately just head home if they can't find a job.

Its much easier for America to deal with immigrants, in fact if the US had a reasonable immigration law, they wouldn't even have this problem to begin with.

Fair point

Whats the temporary band Aid resulting in the lowest numbers of cross per day in ages? That seems like a primary solution that should be step 1.

Congress won't do shit. Republicans will likely be able to get additional funding to ICE and CBP through the budget reconciliation procedure that only requires a simple majority to pass the Senate, and that's only because DJT is going to strong arm them into doing so. The GOP is dog shit, collectively good for nothing but sitting in their cuck chair: border security and illegal immigration are campaign issues they don't actually care about solving.

All government officials blow. However, DJT is crushing it right now at the border

But what action items are better than them just not coming in? If they are just getting the hint that they aren't welcomed, they will be rejected, hunted, "humiliated," "degraded" -- and thus willfully not closing to make the trek...isn't that best case option?

My biggest position on this is you make it widely known how hated they are and how much shit they will have to endure (on top of the harsh tactics to catch them when there) that they will choose just not to come. You have to make the situation here worse for them than the situations they face at home

I agree. It should be completely onerous for anyone to make the attempt. They should be bombarded constantly with how awful it would be for them.

That's where the Trump effect really comes into play in an effective manner

The lower number of crossings is because Trump reversed Biden era executive orders that opened up the borders. However, that can easily be reversed in 2028 if a Dem is elected.

We need actual immigration legislation passed to make any real difference. For all the media talk about Trump's deportations, the rate at which it's happening is pretty much the same as under Biden and less than Obama.

I have a bit of a suspicion the immigration issue was just being used as a political tool and they're not going to actually try to pass sweeping immigration reform. Something that can be used in the 2028 elections - "Oh we tried to stem illegal immigration, but the Democrats keep stopping it!"

A 2028 dem presidency absolutely would increase illegal immigration simply due to them being seen as more friendly to dregs and the unwashed. And we do need legislation but Trump admin right now is delivering on reducing crossing numbers and their aggressive approach to deportation should make a serious dent as well as send a resounding message "your lives don't matter and you're not welcomed"
