Law US citizen wrongfully arrested by border patrol in Arizona held for nearly 10 days

In fact they can stop anyone in that area and perform a search. There was a recent video of a white sovereign citizen that refused and drove away and got arrested.

You are going on what you believe. If he was detained ileagly then is his lawyer going to sue. Let's see what happens if he dors.
Correct, I am offering an opinion. I understand that this is what the government has been doing, I am questioning it’s constitutionality.

Did he cross in from Mexico if so even if he is a US citizen you are required to have the proper ID on you.

"Yes, U.S. citizens generally need a passport to enter Mexico, regardless of their method of travel (air, land, or sea). While U.S. citizens entering by land or sea can sometimes use a U.S. Passport Card or an Enhanced Driver's License, a passport book is required for air travel."

So did he have the proper paperwork if he crossed the border.
I used to go to Tijuana every weekend and this is fact. You have to show id.

It's not been overturned by the Supreme Court.

Yep I went before you needed a passport. A driver's license was ok. Now it's different.

Yes, U.S. citizens need a passport, either a book or a card, to enter Mexico, even when traveling by car. A passport is the primary document required for international travel. While a passport card is sufficient for land travel,

So stopping any number of white people is proof a law isn't overwhelmingly targeting people of color.

Is that your contention?

So who is illegally crossing the border overwhelmingly. I would say that can cause suspicion but there should be other factors as well.

You know like finding a man near the border that admitted he crossed the border illegally and has no id on them. But they should just take his word that he is a US citizen.

Even without a DL, police can identify you with just your full name and birth date, even if your license has been suspended or revoked.

Remember when GTA V perfectly predicted future MAGA culture?

{<jordan} {<jordan} {<jordan}

I'd expect better treatment from the Taliban.

You seem to be assuming ICE was telling the truth.

And you don't seem to have a problem with innocent American citizens being thrown in jail, as long as they're brown.

You seem to be assuming ICE is not telling the truth. Do you have proof of that.

If he didn't have id they had the right to detain him untill they could. This was not just anywhere but at the border. If ICE is lying then they should be held accountable.

As usual the left plays the race card in everything. I don't care their race or skin tone.

An American citizen who had committed no crime was imprisoned. Land of the free? That's a joke.

You've heard stories about tourists who've been imprisoned?

You guys need to get your third world shit together.

I wasn't playing the race card, I was pointing out this can, has, and will continue to be weaponized against people of color. Exactly like "stop and frisk" was, it's what America does.

If you travel here have your shit together and you will be fine. If you cross the border have the proper paperwork even if you are a US citizen and you will be fine.

As others mention earlier, saw this on this potential, speculative troubling situation.

The Truth About That American Citizen Detained by ICE Comes Out, and Narratives Burn to the Ground

On Friday, the story of an American citizen being held by immigration officials for ten days burst into the political sphere. It was the perfect storm for the press, who were salivating over the opportunity to turn one of the Trump administration's best polling issues into a liability.

As the original reporting went, Jose Hermosillo was wrongfully arrested in Albuquerque, NM, and held for over a week despite telling ICE officials that he was an American. It wasn't until his family showed up with a birth certificate and a Social Security card that he was released.

On its face, this seemed like a pretty big flub by federal officials. After all, no one should want a government that can mistakenly arrest you and hold you for ten days without any evidence that you're an illegal alien. There's just one problem, though. Hermosillo not only told immigration officials he crossed the border illegally, but he also signed a statement swearing that as well.

That sound you hear is the sound of a thousand narratives burning to the ground.

This is why it's always smart to wait for more details before jumping on a story that sounds too good to be true, politically speaking. Democrats and those generally skeptical of Trump's increased immigration enforcement thought they had the holy grail here. Finally, ICE had rashly and unconstitutionally scooped up a U.S. citizen and violated their rights for over a week. It was the talking point they wanted.

Except it turns out that Hermosillo not only told immigration authorities he wasn't an American citizen, but he even concocted an entire story about crossing the border illegally to find work in the United States. Why did he do that? I have no idea. Maybe he's got mental issues. Maybe he was doing something he wasn't supposed to be doing and thought posing as an illegal immigrant was the better option.

Whatever the reason, given what we've learned, it seems patently absurd to continue to blame ICE and the administration for this when this guy left them no choice by lying to them. Were they supposed to ascertain his real history through some sort of telepathy? .....
