it wasn't a scandal. he got passionate about a subject matter at a strip club and talked about the dynamics of men and women, but the "scandal" was that he sounded like a bitter person. i think he split with howard after that was talked about on air.
They felt it was out of character, but maybe Sterns crew just didn't know him and his energy, and misinterpreted him as being upset.

I have seen clips where he seems enraged when somebody doesnt agree with him.

From what i understand, his mistake was believing the photo with the rapper was real and not photoshopped.
I don't think it's illegal, given that the media makes mistakes like this all the time (often in bad faith) and that the entire internet has been fooled by the veracity of that photo.
