Idris Elba rumored to be next Bond

I dont see the big deal, I always assumed that Bond was an agent alias......... which in my mind explained the changes each time a new Bond was chosen.

Idris would be a great Bond imo

I didn’t like Craig at all. I voiced my displeasure for sure. He was blonde with blue eyes...he looked more German Villain than Bond to me. He ended up doing well. I’m not apologizing for my opinion, and I’m open to admit when I have been wrong. I didn’t like Gal Gator as Wonder Woman and I was wrong there. I’m also not apologizing for thinking Bond should e a white Guy with dark hair and chiseled features. That’s how he was fucking written. The world would freak if they made Superman black, why is Bond Different. The author based the character on himself and others he knew.....none of them looked like Idris.
Or if they made Spiderman black or hispanic, captain America black, set movies in egypt and made everyone white, cast biblical epics entirely with whites, used a white cast in every adaptation of an asian movie.

Oh wait. They did all of that stuff.

FACT: Pretending/Defending you're not racist is racism.

I would totally be okay with this under one condition. If they would allow a Caucasian to play John Shaft.

We could argue for a thousand pages and people would still pop in saying but what if they recast a minority as a white pwrson!

Go study the history of film. Whitewashing characters is a hundred times more common than the other way around. Real people and fictional characters

You can't give an inch. Black guys taking all our inches!

I understand your point of view. The thing is, I don't give a shit whether Hollywood have been doing it for decades. Like I said, I don't think it's right. But just because they did it in the past doesn't mean they should continue doing it in the future just to compensate.

I already told you where I stand. If they are going to change a character, might as well name him something else and start a new franchise.

I have no problem with Hollywood releasing more and more movies with ethnic minorities and women in the leading role. Just create a new character, make a new movie. That's it.

But they lack creativity and instead of doing that, they will change an existing character to appeal to a new group of people.

Again, I know they've been doing that for decades but I wasn't around during all of those decades. Just because i'm bringing it up now doesn't mean it's because they are doing it with white people.

I will still watch a new bond movie no matter who they decide to cast, I just don't think they should be messing with characters like that. Same applies if they release a new Blade movie and decide to cast a white guy.

Well Hollywood is allowed to experiment, try and fail. If it's really that egregious, then they won't do it again. Characters are remixed all the time.

As stated before numerous times in this thread, what we think is "right" doesn't mean shit. It's all about the dollars and appealing to a global audience.

It's not like I don't get your point of view either.

But I don't think Idris as Bond is that big of a stretch at all. He's already British and can pull of the "British Gentleman" role easily. And a British special forces agent is not inherently a white character.

It's not that big a deal.

And this is not a matter of black and white, but degrees. If they portrayed Martin Luther King with a white guy in blackface or remixed Abraham Lincoln as Asian, etc. That would be ridiculous.

Idris as Bond? Not ridiculous at all.

Like I said, I just think they should stick to the original material, that's all. I already said that I will watch the movie regardless. So it's not like I am outraged or came hear to cry about it. Just voiced my opinion because that's what the thread is about. I know they've been doing it forever.

With all of that aside, I think Edris is too old for the role.

They should be casting guys in their mid to late thirties for that role at least.

And that is the point.

No one cares if Sansnom or others do not like the changes. They are allowed to not like it. It is this false directed anger that somehow this is unique and unfair and just done to placate SJW's that gets all the tears in each and every thread like this.

You see Sansnom and Fatt Hughes suggesting 'how would we like it if certain fictional black characters were changes' which just proves the vast ignorance of the people who are the ones typically complaining about it. They do not realize it has already happened at over 100 times the incidents where characters (even real life and not fictional people) have been white washed and there was not a fraction of the whinging and cries of oh woe is us. We need to make movies great again.

Hollywood with old material that is still somewhat popular but is getting tired and played out with the audiences will always experiment to try and refresh it and try to find a new and expanded audience. If it fails they will go back to a White bond next time but if it gains them more new audience members than it costs them of the old 'don't change' crowd, then you will see the changes continue to be experimented with. And there is NOTHING wrong with that.

There was nothing inherently white about the character Nick Fury and Samual Jackson has played him well. Purists will say that and most ensembles were almost all historically all white (due to past pandering) and therefore they should forever stay all white whereas Hollywood will always look to broaden characters to reflect the changing audience. You will see more and more Asian characters continually put in due to their growing box office influence and that too is OK. The days of pandering ONLY to whites are done, even though they are still the most pandered too.

I actually think the Rocky franchise has done a good job with this. Instead of recasting Rocky as a young black guy and rebooting the whole thing, they wrote a solid character for a young black guy to continue the franchise. We need more of THAT. People would have been apoplectic if Rocky was changed, but pretty much everyone has embraced Creed because he’s a well written, well acted character. No one thinks of it as pandering, because it isn’t.

Nah. Keep Bond white. 26 movies he's been white. Character's back story from the creator is that of Scottish/Swiss descent. It's an institution at this stage. Can't this one tradition be left alone?

I'll do this shoe on the other foot, hypothetical situation where if it was a character in a movie who was black for 26 movies. And the creator said he was of Nigerian and Cameroon descent. The public expect this character to be played by a black man.

There would be uproar if whitey tried to take this over. So no, please fuck off and leave 007 alone.

God, you are sad.

You really hold this subject close to your heart, huh? You repeat the same thing over and over and over again. I think people got your point of view. No matter how many times you repeat yourself you won't be able to change other peoples opinion. Maybe you should actually read other peoples view and stop being so thick headed instead of having your same old "but Hollywood have been white washing for decades" argument ready all the time.

You can cry about it in as many threads as you want, it won't change a damn thing.

They made Spider-Man black and Hispanic? And what the fuck does Hollywood being racist 50 years ago have to do with my opinion that Idris Elba should be a white British guy who has always been and was written that way? You SJWs are out of hand with reverse discrimination. It’s ok to see a white character as white and a black one as black...if they cast Jason Priestly as Blade I would BS as well.

The thing is they won't stop crying about the fact that Hollywood have been white washing for decades.

MikeMcMann's argument is that today people complain any time they change a white character to a non white character.

The thing is, there wasn't any internet back then. So what exactly proves that black people or just people in general weren't complaining about the same thing too?

We already said that we agreed that if they were to change a black character such as Blade and made him white we would be against it too. But still, they keep bringing up the same old "but Hollywood have been white washing for decades and no one was complaining about it." Although they have no proof that no one was complaining about it.

Your hypothetical does not work as that has happened hundreds of times to ethnic characters who have been white washed. And not just ethnic fictional characters, actual ethnic REAL LIFE people switched to white characters for the movie adaptation.

So there is no such tradition other than the tradition that it was done only to ethnic characters and not white characters prior.

Just because we are not white guys and don't mind remixing characters as other races means we are SJW's. Completely false equivalency.

I get it - white guys have been taking a beating in the media recently (men in general)... and most white guys in general are just normal people like everyone else. Not their fault Harvey Weinstein is a psycho. They are not going out raping and sexually assaulting people.

But maybe instead of reacting with anger and disdain, you can EMPATHIZE now that the shoe is on the other foot (some of the time - still a lot of whitewashing happening NOW.) Just deal with it as the rest of us have been forever.
