Well i was going off what I remebered from the old bonds of my childhood, if I had kept current and seen any of the new ones I guess I might see it differently, but I would probably say that skyfall wasn’t keeping true itself.

The last bond film I have seen was the first Pierce one, and I didn’t really like it so I didn’t keep up

It's weird because EON intended it to be very true to its own mythos. It's just too bad the story is kind of all over the place.

SKYFALL is a pastiche of Bond tropes more than it's a film in itself and fortunately or unfortunately, however you want to look at it, it veers away from Craig's demand for the anti-Bond (who is cut more to resemble Jason Bourne, and doesn't say "Shaken not stirred"). SPECTRE is almost Moore-level camp with a shit-eating villain and its tiny frikkin lasers. Craig's Bond is self-aware, even more than Moore's Bond who constantly winked at the camera, because Craig endeavored to turn every Bond convention on its ear. What happened is you expect a certain thing from Bond and Craig does something else. Now people who like to make fun of me will bring up "subversion" as a joke in good fun.



But that's mostly because it's easy to reduce the concept to just its textual outcome, and thereby miss its narrative impact. Properly wielded, the narrative impact of subversion keeps you guessing; improperly, it yields disappointment. The first few times it was kind of funny seeing how Craig would avoid ordering a vodka martini in traditional manner. But then he just started coming off as petulent, and his frank British attitude after every production schedule was always, "Fuck another film," which didn't help. Personally I think Craig tho White (on topic!) is terrible as Bond, but I admire his DGAF attitude about playing nice with the media. None of his films are completely satisfying; even CASINO ROYALE feels like it overstays its welcome once the card game's over and the ball mashing begins. It's like those are our balls would you give it a rest already?

I will say that I really like GOLDENEYE, but after seeing CASINO ROYALE (directed by the same guy) GOLDENEYE ends up feeling more like a comedy than I'd prefer.

Lol why even ask if you're going to arbitrarily dismiss examples. If you want more examples read the actual thread you're posting in, where dozens of examples have been listed.

Also, just saying they don't count without any reasoning as to why, isn't a logical argument. They don't count because you say so? What a compelling argument

But you're talking like it's only happened in the past. It's still happening NOW. Only they are now whitewashing (Scarlet Johannsson plays iconic Japanese character, etc) AND doing it the other way around (Idris playing Bond, etc)

And for the record, way more whitewashing still happens now than it does the other way around.

I personally do not give a shit one bit. As long as the story is good. Who the hell cares what race/nationality the person is? As long as it's realistic and treats every group as just a person and not a dumb racial caricature.

Like Star Wars for example. For the longest time, most of the people were white (even the background people like rebel soldiers and troopers) Well that's not realistic is it? People in space should represent all of humanity.

You keep saying it's still happening now yet the only example you give is some Scarlett Johanson movie which I am not aware of. Like I said, if it happened to a character that I actually knew such as Blade then yes, I would be against it as well.

You think it's okay to change the source material of a character, I don't. I'll still watch though, i'm just against the idea of changing a character.
