Not true. I boxed for six years, at the old Lincoln Heights Jail, in downtown LA, before it shut down, and was never knock down once, let alone "out."

There are many fighters who have never been knocked down, or out, in training. (The elite, of the elite, EVER.)

Being knocked-out, several times, in training, is basically confirmation of a lack of durability.
Spoken like somebody that has never actually been in the gym.

Love all the badasses here saying "not a big deal" "happens all the time"

No people don't get put out cold all the time

People get rocked all the time, especially if they do really hard sparring a lot

Is it surprising that a guy gets slept clean out in an MMA gym? No of course it isn't surprising but that doesn't mean that it's not a big deal. You only have a certain number of times you can go out cold like that in your career so in terms of looking at Garry's future it's far from nothing

Sparring is a weeding-out process.

Sure, anyone who has done this, gets "dazed" occasionally... but I completely concur that somebody who gets put out, especially in sparring — especially several times — isn't cut out to be a legit contender, let alone a True Champion.

Sure but it could also just mean that those people partake in really reckless sparring regularly and if they saved themselves in the training they could still reach the highest level in competition. Garry seems cocky enough to think he can go toe to toe for full on with Ngannou in sparring.

are we gonna start talking about everytime someone is submitted in training too? not a fan of fighters talking about shit that happens in training because it likely happens a lot and really doesn't mean much unless it happens shortly before a fight like with Wand but still it's a low class move. imo

I used to train with the same team (foundation wise at least when it was imperial all the way through Blackzilians) the sparring is some of the hardest I’ve ever had. There is no shame in getting clipped in sparring I would see on average one KO every other week es normal. You have some of the best guys in the world throwing heavy fucking leather people get put out from time to time. It is very believable but also some bitch shit to put it out there publicly imo. I would never speak on the KO’s I saw at the Blackzilians, shit Hooft would literally yell at us to focus back on who we were moving around with anytime we rubber necked when someone got dropped. It wasn’t something that we would make a big deal out of at the time.

The first thing I ever learned in MT class when it came to sparring; “Hit me as hard as you want to get hit.”

Not sure if Garry has no chin, or he’s just training with guys who are better and not giving them any respect. Also not sure how true these gym reports are.

It's pretty funny. So and so got KOd in training. Meanwhile every single fighter has been submitted during sparring.
Being KOd is worse for your brain, but it's not like getting submitted is less of a "loss."

I don't know, my feeling just looking at him is, he is fragile "for a fighter."

Seems talented, yes, but his chin is "just hanging out there" when he fights, waiting to get dropped.

Understand what you're saying.

We all have different experiences. I boxed in a pro gym.

Rarely saw anyone get knocked down -- only remember one complete knockout.

YMMV, but your statement, "I would see on average one KO every other week es normal," is not the same statement as the same guy getting KO'd, twice, in sparring.

You're comparing an "every-other-week occurrence" with all people who ever entered the gym ... with the same guy getting KO'd in sparring.

The first is a composite of everybody who laces on a pair of gloves; the second is a pattern with the same "one chinney guy" getting KO'd in sparring, repeatedly.

That DOES NOT HAPPEN to elite fighters.

PS: I do agree "what happens in the gym" should stay in the gym.

They don’t call it Kill Cliff for nothing JOE

Aldo use to sleep in the gym all the time back in the day
