Ian Garry = BARELY won against Neil Magny

He dominated.
He takes pride in his intelligence and patience, it's just not the most existing

Showed a complete inability to land anything meaningful other than a few kicks.
Watching it felt like watching Garry fail to finish a fight more than watching Magny lose another one.
Underrated for Magny to stay alive the whole time, but Garry could have really done something spectacular. Dominated just doesn't feel like the right word when his opponent was virtually incapable of offense.

Correction: Magny USED TO BE the ultimate gatekeeper. The guy is 36 and hasn't beaten a top 10 opponent is years. I actually like Magny, but he's clearly not the same fighter he used to be. And he's certainly not the gatekeeper he used to be. He's been relatively washed for a while now.

That's just being nitpicky. Magny's style helps with his longevity so I don't think he's declined much at all. He's never been elite and he did beat Neal handily just two years ago.

Magny just couldn't find a way to do anything at all which was interesting.

Do I think Garry is champ material after this fight? No, but it's a solid, quality domination.

I feel like more colors and underlinings and fonts and symbols would've made the original post more impactful.

I prefer my trolling to be believable and seemingly effortless. Nearly undetectable. I appreciate the sentiment, but sadly, this gets a 2/10 from me.

EDIT: actually 5/10 because I loved this part:

"When Magny did land significant strikes, they were crisper, fuller, juicier, more plump."

I like the idea of juicy plump punches. LMAO. I got a decent chuckle from that.

You have potential. Keep at it.

It's not nitpickky at all...it's factual. Yes, he beat Geoff Neal 2 years ago. But 2 years is a long time for a guy who's in his mid-30s and has been fighting at the highest level for a full decade. Neal would starch Magny if they fought today.

This isn't a backhanded way for me to take a shot at Garry. He looked great in that fight and may turn out to be championship material. But Magny is clearly not the same guy he used to be; he's visibly slowed down. He spent many years hovering around the top 10, and he beat a handful of top 10 guys. As of now, I don't think he'd be remotely competitive against a single top 10 WW. Hell, I can't imagine him beating a single top 15 WW, except Chiesa (who's completely washed and doesn't belong in the rankings). And there are unranked guys I'd probably favor over Magny as well (e.g., RDA, Michel, Brown, Gunnar). And that's just in the UFC.

The only reason I open Big F threads is to see his “Dagestani slayer” nonsense. Instead, it’s a troll golem thread. Oh well, at least it’s a move I didn’t see coming.

Ian Garry's performance against Neil Magny was lacklustre. Here's why.

Garry couldn't finish a one-legged Magny. His "kicks" were really just >>>foot sweeps<<< that did NO damage to Magny.

Maybe you could have some justification for this thread if his first and second kicks didn't knock Magny to the ground

Garry couldn't finish a one-legged Magny. His "kicks" were really just >>>foot sweeps<<< that did NO damage to Magny. A fight is all about damage, and if this was a street fight - which is the purest form of fighting - Garry would have lost, MISERABLY.

I don't agree that Ian "beat" Garry. Magny did not have a full training camp. Garry did. In a rematch, the outcome would be **catastrophically** different.

When Magny did land significant strikes, they were crisper, fuller, juicier, more plump.

Out of all the "dominations" I've seen in MMA (been watching far before UFC 1), this has got to be one of the most MISTERleading.

On the right day anyone in the UFC can finish their opponent (JDS vs Cain) but when somebody thoroughly dominates a guy like Magny and makes it look like a sparring session, I am way more impressed. I would have loved a finish, but Ian made Neil Magny look like he should retire. Magny is the ultimate gatekeeper and people usually don't look that good against him ever. Sure he gets caught or overpowered, but Ian even engaged with him and beat him where they grappled against the cage.

It was an impressive win.

Damn that's a lot of highlighting and underlining, what's with all the highlighting and underlining lately, are you the same guy?

anyway, I didn't watch this fight. Leme go check it out. Ian Garry is annoying.

He is the new Darren Till. Acts cool, like a killer and tough, but is a filthy point fighter.

He did a good job.
