I think we're all just flabbergasted with Shavkat's performance now

Shavkat has never had great takedowns. It's the weakest part of his game, right behind it is his striking defense. He's a bit like Rockhold, he's probably going to finish you if he gets on top but getting there is the problem.
 
Khabib said that you have to finish Belal in order to beat him, it won't be via decision. I believe that and don't see Shavkat able to take Belal down where he excels.
 
Shavkat's biggest strength is his fight IQ, imo. He's got good striking and decent grappling but those skills are not heads and shoulders above others.

That allows him to get finishes against mid-level competition. But I predict that's not going to be the case against high level competition. But we have not seen Shavkat in real danger. He would adapt quickly when his opponent landed some good punches.

Its hilarious that Garry shamelessly point fought against two action fighters in Neal and MVP. Think of how hard it is to make a brutally boring stinker out of those two guys. I don't say shameless because its unwise to point fight Neal and MVP, but shameless to be so brash and uncouth as Garry is publicly then fight like you're terrified of engaging.

So here we are with the tables turned watching Shavkat casually point fighting Garry. He did it with complete impunity too.
 
Nothing has changed and it wasn't really a bad performance. What happened was, Shavkat hit some actual competition.
 
Fuck me. Its not like this is a sport with many variables at play, where anything can happen and performances can vary because two humans are involved. 😕
 
That's exactly how I thought the fight would go.... If you didn't see that type of fight happening you just hate Ian Garry too much to see his potential.

Shavkrat is great if he fought wreckless he would've gotten knocked out.

Can Belal TD Shavkat and control him. Also does he have the ability to push around the bigger man for 25 minutes? Another big question is can Belal affectively close the distance without getting hurt.

Good post. Shavkat gets hit too much to win this fight. I believe Belal will set up the take down ala his efforts against Leon Edwards. Belal may not be as tall but he belongs in this division comfortably. If by bigger man you mean taller then okay otherwise Belal won't be bullied.It is Shavkat who needs to be more concerned with getting hurt imo.

Good points. But 1 thing I disagree with is the last sentence. Shavkat has no worries getting down and dirty and making it a nasty fight (the Neal fight us a great example ) and for Belal to affectively implement his gameplan he will have to push through that fire and avoid the mid range. He has to be all the way in it completely on the outside. His entries and exits will have to be perfect or he's getting hurt.
