I just watched Star Wars for the first time.

lets just pretend episodes 1, 2 and 3 never happened

I think that's one of the reasons why Episode 1 had the best sabre duel out of the prequels. Cause Maul was an athletic explosive individual. After he was offed who did you have as a foil to the hero's? No offense to Christopher Lee (legend) but he was over 80 years old at that point. Not exactly spry and most definitely not a trained martial artist like Ray Park. Then you had a terrible CGI "monster" in Sieveus. Then lastly a anti-climatic "duel" that lasted way to long between Obi and Ani that we already knew what the outcome was going to be.

If they had of kept Maul around past Episode 1 and just replaced Dooku's character with him instead, it would've probably been a much better narrative overall and he would've been a better villain. But I don't think they wanted him around past TPM cause it would steal from Vaders thunder and prestige. George always said it was Anakins story, I guess that's why he wrote it that way. But I thought RedLetterMedia's reviews made good points. Vader was just a pawn in the original and it was never really about him. Then something changed and George wanted to make it about Anakin/Vader. The backtracking was atrocious.

Good post. Horrible writing and directing in these movies.

Hahahhahha

I'm surprised TS made it through any of them. I have tried to watch Star Wars numerous times at the urging of my friends. I fall asleep every fucking time. In fact, I'm thinking of buying it on Blu Ray so I can watch it when I have insomnia.

With the sound off?

It might actually be better with the sound off.

Let me explain myself. At first I noticed that the viceroy alien guy's accent was so obviously an Asian stereotype. I overlooked pass that.

Then Jar Jar Binks came into the picture. I could catch some Jamaican undertones but not only that, he was just incredibly annoying in general. Ex-squeeze me? Really?

I got to the part where they were in the submarine when I realized Jar Jar was probably more than I minor character and I'd have to deal with him for the whole movie.

I feel like I might just have to read up on a really extensive summary of the movies instead.

Does he eventually get less annoying?

Keep watching 1 2 and 3. They are by far superior to any film made in the last 100 years.

Like others are saying - 4, 5 and 6 are good, 1, 2 and 3 not so much, in terms of story, at least. I will admit that the lightsaber battles in 1, 2 and 3 are still pretty bad ass, though, at least in my opinion. The lightsaber battle at the end of the first movie, I loved that shit, mostly 'cause Darth Maul is bad ass.

I'm probably in the minority when I say I enjoyed the saber battles in ep 1, 2, 3, but whatever. 1, 2 and 3 aren't great movies, but I still enjoyed the action in them.

I hope the new movie isn't a let down and lives up to the hype. Hopefully it isn't just a bunch of CGI and no story.

Man, I just wish they'd make a new Star Wars game where you get to be the Jedi's and Sith's, kind of like Star Wars Jedi Knight Jedi Outcast 1-2 and Jedi Academy, as well as Battlefront 2. So far it seems like Battlefront 3 is just a shooter, where you very rarely ever get to be a Jedi or Sith 'cause some other asshole always gets it first. Let's hope EA puts in a game mode to be Jedi's and Sith's like Battlefront 2 had, but I doubt they will.. unless it's a big DLC.. which won't surprise me because EA are a bunch of money sucking bastards.

No, bro, I loved the light saber battles in 1, 2, and 3. I thought they were very well executed and directed.

He's not a major part at all in 2 and 3 and for good reason, the backlash from fans was epic during the aftermath of the release of Episode 1. I'd say skip it and just watch 2 and 3.

Don't get how someone can hate 1 but love 2 and 3. All three movies have absolutely cringeworthy acting/dialogue/script. The first one at least has Darth Maul and some cool lightsaber scenes.

The Phantom Menace is only good for the Pod Race and Fight at the end. Don't want to spoil it for you. It's been 16 years but hey you haven't seen them so I guess it's not out of the realm of possibility you don't know how TPM ends.

Attack of the Clones has some good spots and Revenge of the Sith has some okay moments too but overall they are very bland, boring talkative movies with characters just standing around in static environments or sitting on couches talking.

The prequels have no where near as much heart, whimsy or adventure as the original trilogy.

If you want to see a truncated version of the Pod race, here's a cool re-edit with some excellent Mad Max music.

I'll admit that the movies are so ingrained in today's society that it's hard to not have heard or seen specific scenes but I don't know how or where everything falls into place.

When Luke goes to Lando's floating city to save the crew. Leia yells to him, "It's a trap!" I assumed that was where the meme came from. I wondered why the alien guy's image was used instead. Then I saw episode 3 and it made more sense.

A lot of the quotes and scenes stuck out to me simply because of memes. Especially, "Let the hate flow through you."

I watched 4 5 and 6 when I was a kid and loved them but never tried the first three.

You're honestly not missing out on much. You could easily youtube the action scenes from the prequels...

Mostly crappy dialogue but the lightsaber duels were cool as fuck.

IMO the Force Unleashed would have made a VERY good star wars movie.

Even if they were good I kind of fell out of the Sci-fi scene and wouldn't enjoy them as much as I did years ago. Can't see myself watching them now that you guys say they were terrible.
