Movies I just saw F1. It's a cool movie, but a not a good movie.

F1 kicked ass. Best movie of the year. Saw it twice in IMAX, still want more. Listen to the soundtack a lot, great get up & go get shit done music. Hans Zimmer ftw

Great fuckin movie

What? F1 literally allowed them to shoot at actual races. They couldn't have more access.
Yup, and being that Lewis Hamilton was a key part of the movie as a tech consultant and producer. Anyone who has watched F1 would notice all (or almost all 20) of the drivers from last season were in it at some point in cameos. F1 gave them a ton of access that most sports would never allow. I think even Lance Stroll was in it, though you can't tell if it's the real Lance or a cardboard cutout b/c they have virtually the same personality.

FIA is dumb in a lot of ways but they are definitely trying to get more of the younger American audience. Bringing in another American F1 team next season too with Cadillac. Though I'm not sure that was the best brand to try to get the younger audience.

It was a decent racing movie. It had good actors and Pitt brought his charisma. It was likely much better to see in the theaters. I saw it like 3 times. First time was 4d at a Regal. The racing scenes were fun. I would get it a 7.5-8. Far from average but not best picture. I had fun watching it. To me, it executed on what it set out to do even if that wasn't incredible ground breaking.

style over substance to the max. Kosinski and his team are damn good at what they do. I’m a fan of Pitt; this is the type of role he could play in his sleep so it was basically tailor made for him. Overall, fun experience on the big screen but not really memorable.

There have been better racing movies for sure, Ford vs. Ferrari and Rush, most notably.

Also Bardem pretty much makes any movie he’s in better, independent of the overall quality of the film. His last collaboration with Pitt, the Ridley Scott, Cormac McCarthy adaptation, was a wash but Bardem stole every scene he was in regardless.

for real fans of F1 it was meh.
the FIA would have suspended is ass after his first race.
Today, sure, it was different in the old days. Drivers constantly risked their lives in practice & on race day. These cars were cobbled together with the best available parts and No Drivers had experience with these new beasts of unheard of track speeds.

"Ford vs Ferrari" is the nuts and bolts of teams driven to win at any expense. Great Flick!

"American car designer Carroll Shelby and driver Ken Miles battle corporate interference and the laws of physics to build a revolutionary race car for Ford in order to defeat Ferrari at the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1966."

Great read on F1 history.

I did not care for Top Gun Maverick. Ya, it had some cool throwbacks with Iceman. But F1 was better. Top Gun 2 was basically Top Gun 1 but nowhere near as good or as epic for its time.

I guess I like F1 racing way more than I like fighter jets and the Navy though, so that factored into it

I think that's the point of F1, Top Gun and Days of Thunder. You're there to just mindlessly be entertained. Bruckheimer isn't out here trying to create Citizen Kane.

The difference is back then they were just seen as great popcorn entertainment rather than the 'best movie of the year'. This movie is currently sitting at 7.7 on imdb. I doubt this is any better than Stallone's Driven.

It's also helpful if you are an F1 fan and know the drivers. There are a lot of cameos in it for example. And a lot of stuff that's really cool as a fan. Of course it's in no way rooted in reality with half the stuff that goes on, just like Top Gun and all those movies.

Plus Lewis Hamilton helped produce it. He's not my favorite driver but his story is really good. Most F1 drivers go up extremely rich b/c it's so costly to get into. Lewis grew up poor and was often picked on b/c he was half black. It's a really cool back story about how his dad supported him and put his own life on hold for Lewis until Lewis got sponsorship from McLaren-Mercedes.
