I finally have a legit arcade machine.

You need to replace that LCD with a CRT to be really "legit."

Who cares about being "legit" with an emulation machine?
Seems like a huge waste of money.
A huge waste of money would be those $300 Arcade 1Up cabinets that play a single game from the retro arcade era like Galaga.

For $800 he can play pretty much any arcade game ever made. He can also play pretty much every classic console game that operated on a single analog controller, and even modern PC games if he cared to hook up a wireless controller or KB+M.

If you think that's a bad value I fear to hear your assessment of the $350+ Xbox One X.

True and those other items a you posted are a huge waste of money too. If @Ice That Jaw gets a lot of game time out of that cabinet more power to him.

When I had my Kodi running RCB It was awesome to look and set up, but I barely ever used it cause I have a modern game console and PC and I doubt I would use MAME on that cabinet as well, no matter the monetary value its a waste because it costs something more important. My personal time.

The Xbox One X costs $500 in Canada. Not worth the marginal improvement imho for a year until Scarlett drops.

I'm using an HLSL filter to replicate the scanlines when playing arcade games and while not genuine, it does a great job of imitating the feel.

The last CRT I owned was a 27in Zenith that did 720p and 1080i and it looked very modern compared to the ones you are probably referring to.

This cabinet is basically a video game museum. I have sample music, videos, screenshots, box art, descriptions, and game manuals for all 8000+ games I have installed. With the Big Box UI, you can flip through games by platform, publisher, developer, genre, decade, etc. Sometimes I spend more time just browsing the games than I do playing them.

It is more than just some games to play. It's an experience.

Since you've conceded that the Xbox One X is a pitiful value at $400, which I knew you wouldn't challenge, I'll take that extra inch and point out the Xbox One S at $225+ is a pretty terrible value by the same semi-objective assessment.

Oh, you mean you have the exact same thing he has in this arcade cabinet?

Who pooed on your dad today? When did I say an Xbox One S a "pitiful" value at $225? Am I missing something here?

Good for you. I think it's important to spend at least some of your money on things that make you happy.

You're the one who introduced negativity to the thread with the "waste of money" comment.

A suspicion grows in me that you're a frustrated former DIYer, and so your "waste of personal time" becomes his "waste of money". If the Xbox One X is a poor value as a gaming machine at $350 the Xbox One S at roughly 2/3 that certainly is, too. It's not like the latter enjoys a larger library, and it's an inferior piece of hardware. The Xbox One's total library is 2,292 games, and those don't come for free. His machine can run over 8,000 retro games, and he could certainly install many more (ex. there's also over 60,000 Windows PC games if you count those that only run in compatibility mode on Windows 10).

There's really no better bang-for-your-buck in gaming than a machine like this. It's as good as it gets. It's also nostalgic and cool.

Cool... I have a two player bar top one that runs Retro Arch. A buddy of mine built several of them and I bought one.
