I don't see Khamzat vs Dricus being remotely close.

This isn't even remotely close to true amigo.

A shopworn past-his-prime WW Usman is better than a prime MW DDP? Fuck out of here with that nonsense.

Maybe, and I mean maybe, a prime Usman might beat DDP, but the Kamaru that actually stepped into the octagon and took Chimaev the distance? DDP simply dogwalks that version of Usman easily. It's not often where a champ is almost universally written off and discredited as in this fight. And a champ (possibly) successfully defending his title as an underdog and being considered an upset? Not going to lie, that's exciting. Maybe Chimaev just looks scary and he counts on the beard hiding a weak chin.

What happens if Khamzat can't outmuscle DDP? If DDP's strength matches Chimaev's skills? I've never seen Chimaev in championship rounds and both times Chimaev saw the third round he went to decsions. I don't know why but I have this funny feeling once that cage door closes and it's not about the theatrics or posturing for the media anymore, DDP's going to be all business and Chimaev's going to blow his wad early on. Khamzat is a beast though and what he did to Whitaker was nothing short of holyfuckism.

And whoever has Chimaev's ear, can you please tell him to smarten the fuck up and completely forget WW exists? The MW-LHW playbook is the path forward for that man if he takes the strap tonight.

Stoked for this fight though. Only a few more
Do you still feel this way about Usman? Honestly curious.

Man I hope DDP wins. The fan girling on this one is so strong, and the salt from tears afterwards will fill up an Olympic-sized swimming pool.

You were almost right, the salt level is even higher...

That's what makes it fun.

Realistically either man could beat the ever loving shit out of the other depending on how the fight goes
Never has a more reasonable take been so out to lunch, but how were we to know DDP 's actual plan was to get taken down by the wrestler with poor striking?

The part I really had not considered was Dricus basically accepting defeat.

I expected Khamzat to get him down and dominante the early phase, but I thought DDP would fight like hell to get back up, create scrambles, make Khamzat work.

I read this before the fight and thought it was interesting and possible. Not a first round submission, but pretty good prediction in that it was complete domination.

You certainly had the most reasonable take in this thread before the fight. Like most people I thought DDP could win if he survived the first few rounds.

Honestly, I don't even know what the fuck to think about that fight, it was just bizarre. In my opinion, DDP fought a far superior version of Khamzat, who I don't think he ever belonged at 170lbs. If Khamzat's instability and heatlh issues and unreliability were as a result of the weight cuts or trying to make WW, someone should have got in his ear sooner. Now that Khamzat is firmly a MW and settled in, he looks like a beast.

If DDP he had any kind of game plan at all, I don't know what the fuck he was thinking. Or his corner. I've seen shell-shocked fighters before and fighters' nerves bailing on them pre-fight, but that was so strange to see a fighter of DDP's caliber in total zombie mode. His corner might as well been a bunch of deaf-mutes.

On the other hand, Chimaev, despite being incredibly talented and following a specific game plan and having this rep of being a total killer fought a safe game plan than even GSP would be saying "WTF??".

Never have I seen a fighter so prone and so vulnerable for so long without being finished. Shit-talk GSP and hate on his performances all you want, but damned if wasn't at least trying to pass guard or inflict damage all the time, and not just doing whatever huggy-huggy shit that was. i have never seen anyone trapped in a (mulitple!!) crucifix(es) that long... by such an obviously high-caliber fighter... and not get finished or look like Sloth at the end of it. That was unbelievable. And DDP wasn't even really trying to fight back.

It seemed like Chimaev wanted to win and get the finish but not really hurt DDP in the process and the fight was so one-sided the MW division almost instantly froze over. DDP was clearly the best MW, and you couldn't sell an immediate rematch with Khamzat to a blind person. He might as well just to LHW now. If Khamzat can't be chin-checked at MW, all his fun is at 205lbs.

Maybe DDP ate the whole bottle of Xanax? Fuck knows, but unless DDP makes some fucking drastic changes, not little ones, he's never beating Chimaev.

Tears are indeed flowing, enough that people are asking for the rules to be changed.
Only because the guy is Muslim. If he was a white dude from America it would be hailed as the greatest performance by a mixed martial arts athlete in history.

Khamzat is going to run through this guy in the first round, with a submission.

All due respect to Dricus, the guy has consistently found a way to win. I just think watching his grappling exchanges in all his fights, Khamzat will make this very easy.

well done.

do you remember who this guy is?

It's what I love about this sport. I thought DDP would be able to survive the first few rounds and take over later in the fight. It's very easy to see now if you don't have a high level of grappling, this guy is impossible to deal with. Lesser fighters than DDP did better (Gilbert come to mind) but Burns grappling/BJJ is elite. DDP has relied on his awkard style, very good/underrated striking and the guy is a beast. He's super strong and his cardio has improved. He just didn't have any answer to the wrestling.

I thought DDP would be able to get some work done if he made it past 2 rounds as Khamzat's cardio seemed questionable... but I thought there was no way he was escaping those first 2. Khamzat surprised us all with his patience on this one.

I also think DDP should have tried a lot harder to get up than he did, he seemed content waiting out each round on the bottom. Even if he got subbed trying to get up, would've been better than this result for him
