The histrionic way they speak about relatively minor things including things that have been happening to everyone else for a long time, like it's the end of the world. If a white character in some form of fiction is then changed to a minority in another that's so unfair for example, while ignoring the entire history of whitewashing in fictional media here until relatively recently.

Exactly the point at which minorities started to have enough money to matter to advertisers as a matter of fact. Oh hey what a coincidence!

A lot if whitewashing happened because whites were a hyperdominant demographic / it was the 40s, or they had simplify American so they can sell video or DVDs abroad.

Within the context of entertainment for profit companies doing harakiri is not irrelevant.

We do not live in the Songhai Empire, or Tudor England so we shall complain about minor things.

So what minority man aka the most obsessed demo want is different than what white man want from their entertainment right now?

No, I'll give you an example. You have something like the recent LOTR show. The source material everyone is white mostly. Except the bad guys. It's that way for a lot of older properties. For the reasons you said and it's nothing to get triggered about tbh.

However. When these companies endlessly reboot and rebrand these properties which they will over creating new IPs because they lack creativity and have a lot of money tied up in owning these IPs, they aren't going to keep everyone white.

For really obvious reasons. The market is more diverse, advertisers want to capture as much of the market as possible etc. Instead of understanding these obvious concerns rooted purely in capitalism, they take it as some sort of attack on white people.

Why can't those minorities get their own properties, the originals didn't include them! The irony being both the history of whitewashing in media in this country, and the fact that the people making these decisions are often older white men sitting in positions of power and they are doing so to maximize profit by widening demos. That's it.

The creativity is out there but it somewhat understandable why the money would be hesitant to spend on certain projects.

Adveritsers are pushing for black Hobbits or black Aragorn?

Those properties exist. Just find investors who are willing to fund them. Netflix put out multiple decent looking African projects recently. Atlanta is a thing. They enlightenment washed The WomanKing for you.

Movies have IP and trademark protections that would be seen as insane in most of history.

The American movie industry has not been a a pure profit maximizer, companies did absolutely insane stuff and both Warner and Disney are not doing so good right now so i would not describe the people at the top of Hollywood as a bunch of Gordon Gekkos.

It's more like if we get a new version of something that originally had only white people, it's absolutely inevitable that the new version is going to be multiracial and if people get mad about such obvious things it's like.... ok?

It it is inevitable that new version will be more multiracial? Because? How does that work out for historical fiction? Is true in every case?

Sometimes being more multiracial makes sense. let's say there is a superhero that emerges every 20 years in a big city since 1901. Sometimes it makes zero sense.

It is ok with you, but not so ok for the ip holders as we had seen some ruthless slaps from the invisible hand of the market recently.
 
I'll watch some of his stuff, and actually agree with him on a lot of his opinions but you can tell he pushes things too far to pander to his audience too. That's just how the clickbait content works nowadays.

I find his voice and persona kind of annoying. Always sounds super constipated.
 
Almost never. He doesn't show on my algorithm. I get foodie influencers instead.
 
Listened to him a good amount last year during my work commutes. It got tiresome hearing how the new movie/tv show was woke an thats why it failed.

He was quite complimentary about Prey

He doesn't mind admitting when he was wrong. Like expecting Prey or House of the dragon to be crap and then changing his mind after actually watching them

The post you quote more reflects the forum members bias about Critical Drinker than anything actually in that review by the Drinker. He wasn't 100% positive. But then it was only an ok movie. Maybe a 6/10 and far from flawless

Because nearly every "legacy" IP is exclusively or nearly exclusively white, usually owing to whites being the only demo that mattered when they were created. That's not the case anymore so when a company reboots say LOTR over and over, every version isn't going to be exclusively white like the original.

Both because advertisers want to appeal to more demos, and because other demos are fans of the property and want to feel involved.
