How often do you watch 'The Critical Drinker' reviews?

I've seen his name mentioned quite a few times in the movie threads. With one poster even calling him a 'fearless' commentator. I want to get an idea of how often this forum watches him. If you do watch him, what do you like about it? Which particular movie takes do you agree with the most.

I find that he’s pretty knowledgeable on writing, character development, and what makes a good cohesive story. I don’t agree on all his talking points though, but I do find him to be more reasonable than other annoying you tubers with similar channels.

I subscribe.

Some of his stuff is pretty good, but Christ the amount of whining he and his circle of friends do is incredible. You can tell they all think they are important cultural voices, not a bunch of geeks. He's definitely not as bad as some of the others though.

I think they've found a niche on YouTube where they realise being critical brings in far more views than being positive. Think it started with GoT season 8, where there rants got them noticed.

Not gonna lie, there's something about watching a bunch of 40 year old men complaining about how children's films aren't as good now as they used to be, in front of their toy collections, quite therapeutic.

He's a surprisingly great writer and I wonder if that's his actual profession.

This one was a bit melodramatic with putting music on top of his little speech at the end but it was a damn good speech and my favorite video of his

I do like his stuff.

Only thing is that he more summarizes than reviews. So I try and watch his stuff after I watch the films because he tends to spoil the whole movie.

He also sometimes seems to make his mind up about films before he watches them.

I agree with his take on "The Batman" although it was obvious he took it a bit easy on it.

He recently did one on the menu too which I thought was spot on.

He also gave Cruise a lot of props. Last Samurai, Oblivion, Edge of tomorrow etc.

Ok but tends to spoil plot of the movie sometimes

In some review he literally said entire plot of series/film after saying no spoilers lmao

Edit one was arcane review, he lays entire show lol

He writes the Ryan Drake series of novels, about an ex-SAS soldier who now works for an elite CIA unit.

His takes aren't terrible, even though you can tell he's pandering to his audience. I agree with his anti-woke takes, a lot of hollywood movies and even series have gone too far in that direction. So as far as that goes, i agree with him.

I just couldn't get on board with the schtick he has, that constipated voice he puts on. What's with popular youtubers doing weird voices. I prefer reading actual reviews over these videos so I usually skip the drinker.

People can't tell the difference between pandering, gifting, and actual thoughts. It really does seem like people are getting dumber. All part of the plan though

His critiques are decent; especially his breakdowns of older movies. Also, when he does videos about a large topic, like "the hero's journey", he does it well.

However, other times, he is grasping to find something to complain about. For instance, when the Prey trailer dropped, he came down hard on it. But, when the movie itself came out, his criticism seemed forced. He seemed like he would lose his shtick if he admitted he liked it.

He seems like the godfather of cynical movie reviewers on youtube.

If you can rant for 12 minutes on the casting of a mermaid, you're living a good life.
