How much do you tip when you go out to eat?

.I tip way more than I should. I do this for two reasons. 1, there's a nasty stereotype that black people don't tip well, so I feel like I have to overtip at times to break away from the stereotype
I used to work in a few restaurants and a lot of my family members are servers. there definitely is a stereotype that blacks dont tip well. also goes for japanese and australians and many other cultures/countries as well. you should just tip what your server deserves. its not your responsibility to cover for other black people and you overtipping is not going to change perceptions much more than you tipping a standard amount.

personally i usually tip 16.7% rounded up to the nearest dollar for good service.

Lol; mind sharing how you came up with that figure?

If Im at a restaurant where tipping is expected I always tip 15% without even thinking about it... I feel 99% of the time the service is always the same, I feel people are wayyyy too overcritical about the people bringing the food to the table, I hear all these stories and to be honest as I mentioned 99% of the time Ive gone to restaurants I dont see any difference in the servicing, maybe because Im just a very positive person and I usually dont look into whats wrong, but whats good, but hey thats just me. Peace!

Usually anywhere from 15-25% depending on the service.

For the most part I like to order my stuff to-go. As in, I walk up to the bar, say "Hi yeah I ordered that ___." pay and leave.

If you make this more difficult than it has to be (i.e. "oh you CALLED in that order? ummmmmmmm... you have to go.... over....") = I pay cash, ask for the waiter's name (knowing full well it'll be on the receipt), my change, another copy of the receipt, and give the place a bad review online. Even if I'm at the deli of a supermarket and want my sammich pressed, if you make faces at me then I eat some of the sammich, talk to the manager every time, say it tastes like you spit in it because you were making faces ("on camera, go check") and politely ask for a refund. And I always win, too. Them's the beats.

However, IF the service I receive during this very brief exchange is mindblowingly good then maybe I'll give like 10% because I've worked in restaurants myself and know how bad it is (i.e. having to tip busboys out of your own earnings, so dudes that come in and don't tip at all basically force you to spend out of your own wallet to serve them).

I just don't tip guys, I think dudes trying to wait on me is pretty gross. You aren't allowed to tip the young gentleman who loads the groceries into your car @ the supermarket because it's expressly haram and sends the wrong message to men.

You forget that you are part of an establishment that SERVES me as a COURTESY. Being an entitled snob about things is only going to make things harder on you chumps. Male bartenders better have me CRUNK off that first sip or I'm paying you in all change. It's about setting positive examples.

How about you guys?

Jesus fuck, you really do sound like a juggalo. I imagine you may have trouble keeping friends.

If I go to a place a lot, like this Indian joint I used to go to out west i will tip a few bucks even when I'm getting take out.

Other than that usually the customary 15%. In Asia I ate out more and rarely tipped.

In most Asian countries it is offensive to tip or would be confused as to what the hell you're doing. Unless you go to Thailand, they love that farang money.

People still tip 15%?
I thought 20% was for average service because of inflation.
I thought 15% was for poor service.

Now if this was the 90's and you tipped 15% thats understandable.

20% or higher every time. If you don't have money to tip, you don't have money to be eating out...

If a company doesn't have the money to pay its employees, then it shouldn't be in business.

LOL @ giving somebody a $5 because they grabbed a bag from the kitchen. $2 and a peace sign on a $20 bill for doing that is plenty.

This wasn't even carside to-go, either, wtf. Literally the waiter did nothing but grab my order.

I'm guessing you might not be an American, Sneak? In theory, I agree with you... But that's just not the culture here and the way the system is set up. The way it's set up is that the hardest workers and socio-economically marginalized get dicked with low wages and tipping is a way for the customer to subsidize those wages. It's a strange system, but not tipping out of some kind of principle only hurts the worker and makes the person eating out look like a real scumbag. For instance, I won't even go out to eat with friends of mine who are rude and/or don't tip. Not tipping is kind of a social more' here. I agree that the system should be overhauled, but I'd probably still tip anyways. I've never had a service industry job and seeing how hard they work and how poorly they are treated at times makes me sympathetic to their cause.

My comment was moreso based on some other things you said:

Who does this shit? You sound insecure as hell.

Wouldn't stress about him. He's obviously not in a position to pay more than the minimum amount. Pathetic.

Also, I seriously hope TS is joking. That's some real low class stuff. I feel bad for People that know you, Dude... Not to mention the workers that have to put up with your bullshit.

Oh sure yeah, let's all gang up on this guy because he listens to different music than me WHAAAAA!

Ask CinéBistro in Hyde Park or Wesley Chapel about the real King Joffrey. I makes Dana Dollas at the casino look like a friggin' beggar, son.

Now, how do you plan to repent for thy transgress?

He's either a troll or a juggalo. Juggalos are some of the worst pieces of garbage in America. They are all rejects from society that can't figure out why they're hated.
